Need Exhaust Spring Puller

Headlight spring puller from Harbor Freight. Cheap and work great, no issues, I bought two of them.

Pliers' teeth can mark the spring and down the road the spring breaks prematurely....at least that's what I have been told.

Not to mention the dental bill to have the cut in your mouth sewn up and fix the cracked tooth. I like the rope idea.

shop tool - 6" piece of 1/2" round rod, 10" piece of 1/4" round rod. Drill out a 1/4" hole in the 1/2" rod, put the 1/4" rod through, weld it together. Heat and flatten the other end of the 1/4" rod, use angle grinder to cut the notch.

field tool - cord as stated.

I just use 18" of parachute cord. Thread it through the hook and pull.

Once you have all the springs out, string them all on the parachute cord. Harder to lose 'em.

Packs easier than a spring puller too.

I use a good quality shoe lace,

Now I feel like such a retard for not thinking of this.... I've been skinning knuckles and swearing with a little hook dealie or needle nose vise-grips for years.

Great tip!

Spring Puller

Snap On has a very nice spring puller. Just the right size, with two handles to pull with and replaceable hardened tip. I've been using the same one for long time. Pulled many a triple pipes off Yamaha 700's.
