hey guys im leaving in 3 days for my only sled trip this year and i think i messed my sled up!

2006 900 switchback,

chain of events... rode sled 150mi this year trouble free! had stator rebuilt by RM this fall.

pulled it in the shop for some maitenence,
- pulled recoil to check on the stator wires = OK
- removed pipe, re-sealed joints and re-packed silencer!
- installed new primary spring
and finallly
installed a new chassis relay napa# ar274, mine wasnt bad but i had the new one and didnt want any troubles on the trail so i swapped them out.

pulled the cord, SLED STARTED and ran fine, but i have NO lights, and mfd wont illuminate. plugged in the old relay and still no lights or mfd.

hooked my 12v power supply upto the chassis power up plug... and everything lights up! WTF

any help would be great, couldnt test much, multimeter is broke, getting a new one tommorrow! im going to search the threads, let the replys fly! :clock:
 
Sounds like your relay...Did I read something on this site about an incorrect napa relay that will actually damage your sled if used? see this thread: http://www.snowestonline.com/forum/showthread.php?t=206487&highlight=napa . Follow the link inside this one...now I'm worried for your ECU!

Assume you checked the harness plugs at the front of the sled....

Apparently there is a relay test....see Shum's post in this thread: http://www.snowestonline.com/forum/showthread.php?t=301743

If harness plugs are good and relay is good then could be VR not putting out DC or could be bad capacitor.

Note: The light diagnostic port doesn't test the relay.....

Yeah, that relay doesn't work. Not really sure where that info came from that it actually does. What happens when you reinstall your old relay?
 
When I put the oem relay back in, the lights and dash still don't work. The oem relay worked fine prior to installing the Napa unit.
 
Turns out I cooked my ECU when I installed that relay from Napa.

Folks... DO NOT INSTALL NAPA P/N AR274 ON YOUR SLED, EVEN IF THE STICKIES SAY ITS OK! !
 
I just purchased a new ECU off of ebay as a spare I could sell to you, I haven' gotten it yet but I could possibly have it sent directly to you. I think it will just need programmed for whatever injectors you run. PM me if your interested.
EDIT: Just looked and it is for an 05, not sure if you can use it or not, sorry to get your hopes up.

Ordered a new ECU.... $405!!!. In the mean time I wired a toggle switch to ground the relay so my lights will work. Has anybody used this method, for any amount of time? ? I just need the toggle switch deal to work for about 500mi this weekend. And I will install new ECU next week!
 
Wow! $405? too bad yours wasn't an 05 or you could of had the one I am getting for a lot less.

There was a member who did this a few years back, can't remember who but did this with success. It doesn't really matter where the ground comes from and essentially, this is all the ECM is really doing.

As long as you have no runnability issues, I'd run it like that before I spent $400 for a new ECM.
 
well i rode the 900 with my toggle switch rrigged up, for 400mi this weekend, with no problems. new ecu showed up today, im just gunna install it so the sled is 100%. probably gunna try to sell her... the new pro assaults are just too awesome!
