Need a sled, thinking of a new 14 pro

Having a hard time deciding whether I should just buy a 2011 or 12 and save money or step up a little to a new 14 with warranty. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

Find a 13 holdover with warranty.

Don't know how that is in CO, but no chance around here.

If you are close to Rexburg Motorsports in Rexburg, ID...give them a call as they have some great deals. A 2014 155 track last month was 10,300 out the door.

'11-'12 have welded lower a-arms. '13-'14 have glued on alum ends. The 11-12 do not have the thicker cylinder skirt like the 13-14. 13-14 has belt drive, for better or worse.

Maybe the warranties have improved but it sounds like more hassle than it is worth to me. I bought a '13, had the QD belt replaced under warranty but it has since expired. I turned up the oiler and plan to enjoy this like every other sled I have owned.

Nothing wrong with a 11-12 with a fix kit, long rod or decent warranty. It is debatable whether the 13-14 improvements (other than the engine) are really improvements at all.

It IS the best ride on the snow right now. I ride with Doo's and Cat's (M-series) and I am happy to be the only Poo rider. I think it is the most fun I have ever had on a sled. The '14 should be a great machine. I might go for an Assault if I were to do it over again. Steamboat had 2 '13 Assaults last month. Norwood had 2- '13 163 Pro's, either one could be had with more warranty than the '14s, 3 years vs 2.

For what I saved by not going brand new ($2000) I will put towards a drop in kit over the summer, some Timbersled lower arms and maybe a TKI belt drive to cure what ails the Pro.

I have a 14 for sale

I have my 14 that i snochecked for sale if your interested, has 85 miles on it currently. But i plan on riding it one more time this weekend. so would have around 150 miles. Its a 2014 163 800 in the midnight blue and has 2 year warranty.

Pm me if interested and for more details, we can maybe work out a deal on delivery

With the local NW snow conditions I would ride what you have for this year. Come April/Snowcheck time people start dumping sleds.

I bet you can find a 14 Pro 800 with tasteful extras(Bags, belt, cover, etc) with warranty and under 500 miles for $9-10K.

I have had a 12, 13, and 14 and the 14 seems to run the best but does need a few preventive things done.

Either way you'll love the Pro chassis.
Goodluck on your hunt!

Yea, I just did exactly as you said, found a guy who went on one trip and sold a 14 pretty reasonable. What type of preventative things do you recommend?

Thanks,

Dan

Dan,

Check oil usage and more then likely you'll need to turn up the oil pump.
Add 1 oz oil to 1 gallon of gas/premix it
Tunnel braces down by the footwell( FTX Motorsports, Van Amburg, Kmod, Kurts Polaris)
Footwellvents/You can make your own cheap or buy a set from Mike Taylor on Snowest
Look into a better rear bumper

Do some reading on here, ton's of info..

All 800's.
We had a 2011 155" and a 2011 163". The 2011 155" had a ETS go bad.
Other than that, zero problems.
We now have a 2013 155", and a 2014 155".
If you can swing it go with the 2014. But I believe the 2015 will be a game changer. So maybe you will hesitate. :face-icon-small-con

Well I am riding a 2012 Pro 163. Welded factory front "A" arms, Tunnel braces and a good after market rear bumper, RKT piston kit with no controler, clutch kit from Carl's cycle. And good old fashion chain drive instead of a belt. From all the drive belt and drive axle and front A arm problems you couldn't give me a 2013 or 14.

I wouldn't be scared of a '13 or '14 at all. There's been some that have had issues but well over the majority haven't had a problem. Problems seem to get blown out of proportion from what I've actually seen first hand.

Very true!
There were a small percentage of the 13s that had issues with the drive belt and axle at the first of the year, then there was a "fix" for that (axle), which worked well. The ones that had problems were VERY vocal about it, and posted about the issues so many times that it looked like a much bigger problem than it actually was. Then the other "brand loyalists" hopped on the bandwagon and the flaming continued :face-icon-small-dis

The 14 drive belt is much stronger and I haven't seen personally or even heard of a single issue on the 14 yet. I have a 14 and it is the strongest running stock sled i have ever ridden. Added the 3" track and could not be happier!!
In my opinion . .. find a 14. You wont be sorry =)

Cheers!

Have you thought about the standard RMK? welded A arms, chaincase, extra cooling, stronger rear bumper, cheaper!
