Need a little help with a 900 TPS harness?

We have a young man who gets to go sledding for the next couple of months before boot camp and he got hold of a 06 900. On the second ride it started stuttering. I was not there but it sounds like it is cutting out, not bogging from the description. It sound like it is mid throttle and cleans up at wide open, maybe. It has TPS or TPS harness written all over it from what I have gathered in looking thought the posts. I read on here that the harness is an issue but I couldn't find anything on what the issue is. Is it broken wires bad connectors or what should I be looking for or testing for? I can test the TPS fairly comfortable as I have dealt with them since 03.

All help is welcome. Are there other wires that tend to cause the cutting out that should also be searched out? I plan on doing a once thought and try to look for problems but having specific places of known issues is always a plus.

I would love to help get him back on the snow as soon as possible.
Thanks

The wires usually break right where the terminals are crimped on our just up a bit. like this pic

if you disconnect the ecu connector and ohm check each wire while wiggling the harness you can find it or just back probe the wire 10 or so inches from the connector to the connector to see if it has a break. you should also try to build your own tester check the stickies at the top for the usefull 900 links there is a video on how to test and how to build your own tester.

tps harnes replacement number is polaris number 2203165

Thanks, that's what I needed to know. only $27 from parts pitstop I am thinking about getting one to have it on hand just in case.

I'm stocking up on all the parts that fail often. Spare belts, Spare ice scratchers, etc.

Thank Bigdawg

I have a TPS tester that I built back in 03 and have used a bunch. I am just completely un-familiar with the 900. I and none of my friends have ever had one so working on this one will be my first exposure to them and I just don't have the free time I use to have. But how can you not help a good kid that needs a little assistance. We are one big family.

Hard to tell for sure by the description, but if you can't find a wire or TPS problem, you may try checking the powervalves.... a buddy's 06 9 was stuttering at mid throttle and it turned out to be gummed up power valves.... he cleaned them and also plugged off the hoses (effectively giving them the old fashioned pressure only function) and it was cured. The symptom was not a bog, but a distinct stutter at mid throttle...

Just another idea.... good luck :beer;

Thanks 94fordguy. I didn't get to ride it so I will likly be checking a number of things, and the exaust valves will difanatly be on the list even thougth it sounded like it was doing this even down around 5000 rpm which unless they were sticking open I wouldn't expect, but I guess if they are sticking open it would stutter untill you were closer to wide open and that kind of fits with that I was told. OK I kind of talked myself into it. Thanks again
