My XP RIPS................My thumb off!!!

Well, well. Guess what? I smashed up the XP yesterday. I started a "surf" turn to the left at about 15-20 mph and promptly pounded a rock:eek:. Over the bars I go and hit the snow wondering if my left thumb made the trip or stayed with the sled. As it turns out, it stayed with me, although it's been altered:rolleyes:. Broken left thumb, 2 bone chips, and a torn UCL. That's a ulnar collateral legiment. Also called Skier's thumb. I did the same thing to my right thumb in '01 during a desert motorcycle race, so now I'll have a matching set:D. I'll see the hand Doc on Monday and hopefully surgery next week if the swelling is down. Now for the important part. My XP is REALLY bent this time. Left side is back about 3" and the right forward about 1 1/2". The whole thing looks goofy. Kinda like me in a Speedo. I know for sure that the left spindle is hammered but nothing else looks broke or bent. I'm sure once I start un-bolting items, they'll show me their "new" shapes;). The worst part is the new a-arm on the left only had 14 miles on it! I just replaced that Thursday night from my uncle pounding a rock last Monday. $108 for the a-arm divided by 14 miles, equals $7.71 per mile;). That's expensive riding there boys. I'll start pulling things off tomorrow and give you fellow DOO riders a report. On a good note, we rode for another 36 miles and as long as we were not on the trial, she handled great. We hammered up and down a 200' climb for 20 minutes NON-STOP. No belt issues at all. That belt has 120 miles on it. Hopefully this trend continues. This sled keeps running stronger everytime out. 156 miles so far and is beating my uncles XRS159 no problem. Great in the POW:D. Now, if we could just remove all of the rocks from the Snowies, we would be in great shape. And since my Yammy and Kitty buddies read this, yes it's a Ski-Doo and apparently, the front end is still weak;).

Sorry to hear you bent up ypur new sled.For that reason alone I never go riding early I wait till theres 3 feet of base and another 2 feet on top of that.Early riding can be expensive

A Arm

Hey.... Where did you get the $108 A arm?? Mine cost $250. Ouch, Was it the lower a arm?

Well, I have not had the motovation to tear into 'er just yet. Maybe tomorrow. I'll be riding about a week after my surgery. Four fingers are good enough;). Thank God it wasn't my right hand. My $108 A-arm, came from you know where. It was the bottom left. As far as the good base goes, it's there. 3-5 feet everywhere, and it's set up really nice. By the way, I work for BRP's test division. Don't tell anyone. It's on the "down low";). I get unlimited A-arms, but unfortunately, only one thumb:D

Glad to hear you don't need surgery Ike-ster, but if you would have blown your motor first ride out this wouldn't have happened. Sorry to hear it's going to cost you a grand to fix that new nun though. Hope to see ya on the snow in january sometime for our biannual M/X/Nytro shootout:)

Ouch. Those thumb ligaments take forever and a day to get back to 100% strength too. Like 8 months if you can keep from reinjuring them. I rode with a partially torn left later collateral ligament in my left thumb. I had to ride with a brace on the thing. That sucked.

Good news. I saw the hand specialist Thursday, The fracture is in "great" position and the UCL appears to have survived intact.:D. So now I have a nice pretty blue cast for the next 4 weeks, and then we're good to go! When my right thumb had the UCL repaired it took about a year to feel 100%. Before your next ride, pull your thumb to the side and remind him to LET GO if something jumps up at ya:face-icon-small-ton

i like this guys attitude, the love of the sport pertains fractures to the body, true sledder, good luck in the healing process and hope to see you riding soon, if you lived closer i would offer a hand or two on the repair.... dam border between us should not be there, piss off

I wish you were closer too. I'm developing a man crush on ya:eek: Don't get nervous, it's your sleds fault. Everytime I read your signature, I fall in love with your sled. I wanna ride that bad dog!! I'm making a pair of "special" mittens so I can ride next week after the XP is "straight":beer;
