My riding partners say they are all getting sidekicks for the axys!

If your taking your polaris in tight enough trees snowbikes can't go there
A. The guys riding the bikes need practice
B. Your gods gift to snowmobiling and you should make a video

I am certainly not gods gift to sledding, just a half broken down old man out to have a good time.

I have had half a dozen snow bikes out that thought they were going to school the sleds. They were all excellent dirt bike riders and on their 2nd or 3rd season on the bikes. Bikes are way too underpowered to keep up in deep snow at altitude.

You are in complete denial, I mean really, really bad denial if you think an Apex can go where an Axys does. That sled is pushing 200 extra pounds over an Axys. It NEEDS every last bit of power it can make to try and cover for it. Fact is, it still can't.

Now, certainly you could find some perfect storm where the Apex might have a slight edge, like 4 feet of powder and a 45 degree plus slope. Problem is, that will get you killed, so enjoy. With our new found love of tight technical tree riding, the huge and heavy Apex is WAY out of its league. Trying to argue otherwise just makes you sound foolish.

Come on guys it's the weekend and I'm bored, lets hear some about how unreliable 2 strokes are and how you smell at the end of the day. Better yet how much more tired lugging all that extra weight around makes you at the end of the day. Why 4 strokes cost more because you buy them by the pound;)

I'd like to see a truly equal comparison VS the newest king cat and a sidekick axys.... at least then you'd have the newest 4 stroke chassis and not discussing some 10 year old apex. Like you can buy a king cat for around 15k out the door. Brand new axys 3inch LE is about 13k plus a 4k side kick brings it to 17k.... that leaves 2 grand to lighten up the KK.... should be able to shed 30-40 lbs pretty easily. Could actually be a closer race than you think.

ive ridden with two four jokes, a turbo nitro and a turbo cat. the only place they were "better" was up an open hill. and if you want more power just turbo the 2 stroke. I also agree people should ride whatever makes them happy, but the riding partners aren't very happy when there pulling that tank out on the flat ground because its too heavy and it trenched itself in.

Apex is my old backup sled, still very capable. Currently I ride a slightly modified viper and the handling is night and day better than the apex. I also have a 16 axys in my trailer that I ride in setup snow conditions and in these conditions it is easier to ride. But we all know snowmobiling is best in deep powder and that's when a boosted four stroke shines. If all I did was putt around on steep slopes in tight trees on setup snow axys would be my choice. But for someone to say I can't take a heavy fourstroke where they go on an axys is ignorant and stupid because I do it every time we ride.

Maybe you can but, you are going to work a LOT harder to do it. If that instills a sense of pride in you, more power to ya!

If you are only riding the Axys on hard snow days, you are the one missing out.

This topic is right in my wheelhouse. I rode Apex's for 6 yrs. They had all the light weight stuff....Almost 100 lbs removed, also had Boost. Then I bought a 12 Pro RMK, and have now ridding a 12,14,16 and soon to be 17 rmk. The 2-stroke, right out of the box was 150lbs lighter then my "lightened" apex.
On the Apex, you work your butt off! If your riding technical stuff all day....by 2:00 your shoulders are begging to be done for the day. It needs to be fresh powder so you can drive it with the throttle. If its spring conditions its not even worth unloading.
The RMK is so much easier to ride, It requires so much less input from the rider. Not to mention the chassis just works so much better that you dont need 240 hp to climb the same hills.
No reason to fight technology. Eric

Viper is much easier to control than skinny up the front end and boards fairly easy to ride

And if I quit riding my yamaha how would we get the polaris out every time one of those engines tank

Nice try but those days are gone... Try to turbo up a '16 Viper and see how long it lasts. Last I heard Yammi weakened the rods so it wouldn't take much boost.

They all can have issues but the Polaris motors haven't been blowing up for years now. You other brand guys need to come up with a fresh mantra because that one don't play no more homie!

Its funny you say that. The last time we towed out a dead sled it was my apex. Bolt broke in the chaincase. It took 2 Pro's to tow that tank out in 18" of fresh. Eric

But a 15 viper has good rods, towed 2 sleds out last year 14 pro and 16 axys both blown motors

Not entirely.......

But the axys engine is better than the pro engine. And a lot better than the dragon engines, but it's still a 2stroke and they all have their issues. From what I see, the 850 that doo is building will be the new longevity standard for two stroke. Poo and cat will really need to up their engine game.
