When I was wrenching at a bomb dealer, the diagnostic programs didn't work for $hit! They just made diagnosing/fixing issues worse cause they would make a guy overlook something that was "good" I used it as little as possible.
As someone mentioned above, they only read if things are properly working "electronically" when you likely have something mechanically out of spec (injectors/pumps for example) and it's almost impossible to obtain electrical system info from the OEM, so you can't even figure out how to fool the diagnostics for testing.
And the real bad part is, all the new younger techs are only being taught this new technology. Anybody can connect/disconnect electrical plugs and read a computer screen. No good old fashioned testing/tuning or diagnosing is even being taught anymore. Plug and play mechanics now...
