My Pro Is Still Sick. :(

When I was wrenching at a bomb dealer, the diagnostic programs didn't work for $hit! They just made diagnosing/fixing issues worse cause they would make a guy overlook something that was "good" I used it as little as possible.

As someone mentioned above, they only read if things are properly working "electronically" when you likely have something mechanically out of spec (injectors/pumps for example) and it's almost impossible to obtain electrical system info from the OEM, so you can't even figure out how to fool the diagnostics for testing.

And the real bad part is, all the new younger techs are only being taught this new technology. Anybody can connect/disconnect electrical plugs and read a computer screen. No good old fashioned testing/tuning or diagnosing is even being taught anymore. Plug and play mechanics now...

sometimes I wonder if them computer scanners they have to diagnose problems on sleds/vehicles work 100%?? Not really related but my 03 duramax would run like smag and dealer scanner showed no problems whatsoever. After 4 visits to the dealer magically the scanner showed faulty injectors. they were replaced and no more problems. Whether they say there are no problems with the sled, have them start replacing stuff at this point whether scanner shows problems or not.

See this far too often.....

techs have become too reliant on the scan tool and they forget that there is still an engine under all that wiring etc.... Had Ford diagnose a bad fuel pump on one of our fleet trucks last week and they flat out refused my opinion that the converters were plugged. Till they changed the fuel pump. And then the converter assembly. :faint: Truck runs fine now.

Back to topic tho..... hope you get your sled fixed real soon before you have to put 'er away for the summer. Let us know what it was! :beer;

Yes they were, and they were extremely gummed up.

Yello, Yellow. The dealer says the Digital Wrench is telling him the injectors are opening the correct amount and the correct duration. The sled hardly ever dies when going in to reverse. The throttle safety switch was replaced last week, there has been no snow in it that I can tell.

Before they replaced the ECU, it would die and then you would have to wait a few minutes before it would start again. I had to give it gas to get it to start a couple times the last ride with the new ECU.

My dealer tech is still thinking there is a problem with the throttle safety switch or kill switch. Going back in tomorrow to see what new codes it has thrown.

Thanks for ideas! keep em coming!

if that is the case then unplug the kill switch and unplug the ignition. The sled will start all the time and you can shut it off with the throttle safety. I/f you have issues still (and you are sure it is some sort of ignition problem) then you can experiment through the three and find the issue.

I bet it is a messed up reed as well.

The latest on my sled is that the TPS is either faulty or needs a new base calibration, and they think I have at least one bad injector. They are gonna try to re calibrate the TPS and I think I have a new set of injectors on the way.

Hopefully this is the final fix!

from my experience (i owned a 900 rmk for 2 seasons... nuff said) When you have a faulty TPS it will rip 99% of the time and then when you are realy not needing to stop (ie climbing up through a near verticle chute) it will decide that instead of WOT, it wants idle. That is what always happened to me and i went through 4 of them.

Dealer is still waiting for new injectors. He found that the TPS was a little out of calibration, he said a little over two points off, dont know if he meant two percent or two full numbers. Oh well, hopefully there will still be snow when everything is put back together!

Should have new injectors in today or early next week. The problem now is getting to snow. All of our access roads have mudslides, rockslides or wash outs. There is still plenty of snow up high, just have to figure out a way to get there.

Hopefully I will get a ride in next weekend. I'll keep you posted.

My pro started having the same problem last ride. Every other time I was WOT on the trail it would completely bog out until I chopped the throttle. Get up to Elevation (6-7000ft) it ran fine, not even a hiccup. On the way back off the mtn, same problem on the trail.

Haven't diagnosed it yet. Anyone else experiencing just this issue? I never had any of the dieing issues as mentioned in this thread.

I think we cured the WOT bog with the new ECU they installed before my last ride. Dealer says it was not sending a signal to the exhaust valve solenoid to open. Last ride it would rev up every time I hit the throttle, it was just down a few hundred rpm from where it used to run. Now we are hoping to cure the dying issue with the new injectors and TPS re-calibration.

I'll keep you posted.
