My new PRO is in my shop!

man o' man....that shop is a wet dream. That is the kind of place that a guy could literally spend a lifetime in and never complain. Great light, organized tools/cabinets....you sir get the sweet shop of the week/summer award!

on another note, it also makes me glad to see you treat your stuff so well. Like you worked for it AND care about it.:plane:

Enjoy that Pro all winter long!!

Wow those are some very nice comments! Thank you so much, and yes I have worked a long time to get some nice things and the good news is that there is life after 50! Let it snow!!

Do you have hickory or alder cabinets in your shop? Nicer than my kitchen! Looks well organized and tight. Congrats on the new sled, I sure like mine (most of the time).

By the way...did you wear your Polaris shirt to go pick up your sled?:face-icon-small-win

The cabinets are hemlock, not my best work, but they are good enough for a shop. Red faced here.....yes I did wear a Polaris shirt to pick up the new sled.
Dang these digital cameras do too good of a job! LOL

Very nice sleds... shop and everything in the pic... I really have an appreciation for someone with the kind of attention to detail that you have!!

Thanks, but my buddies think I'm just plain nutts! LOL I still have every tool I have ever owned (and there is a lot of them!) and my tool boxes are all labeled and I get a little crazy if I find a tool out of place... yep nutts! LOL
I have always felt I could do better work if I was organized and the area was always as clean as possible. Just me being me I guess.

Not nuts at all i have the exact same outlook as this... when i own my own shop i will have this same mantality.

Breaking in with the non-synthetic oil... one tank worth, then the VES Gold.

Not looking to start an oil debate. Just passing on some info. You might want to take a look at the Polaris 2-Stroke Racing oil vs. the VES Gold. One of the guys I ride with got me going on it back in March when I picked up my Pro. He ran it in his Pro and his 2 previous Poo 800's with no issues. Pulled the exhaust valves on my Pro at 700 miles and his at 1000 miles and just took a rag and wiped them off. Very clean burning juice. It's only a few bucks more a gallon compared to the Gold.

A lot of dealers don't even stock it because they don't even know about it. Got no idea why. There are 8 of us here who will be using it(6 with brand news Pros). We've ordered a large quantity of it and got a little price break from one of the dealers that we use.

Attaching a pic of the oil.

Good info, I will look into it. I didn't know about it either. I find the VES Gold does a good job as well, but the cleanest exhaust valves I ever cleaned had a couple thousand miles on them and the guy used Redline. It stinks too much for me! LOL

The Redline 2-Stroke Racing oil(the label has sleds and bikes on it) and this Poo 2-Stroke Racing oil are pretty much rated even. Only the Redline is retailing for $70 a gallon vs. $50 for the Poo oil. I burned the Redline Synthetic Snowmobile oil in 5 previous sleds and had no issues. Did the valves every 500 miles and had to scrape them to get the crud off.

It basically boils down to what you feel comfortable with and if you can tolerate the smell of the oil you're using.

Lube-Tech (www.lube-tech.com) makes the Racing lubes for Polaris and I believe the VES Gold Plus oil as well.

One thing to keep in mind... the diff between what the factory recommends and sells for the 2-stroke oil... and race oils is that the race oils do not have to pass Emissions regulations for running in the motors.

I'd like to talk to the Lube-tech people to see what the differnce is in the Race and VES Gold Plus.

I think tha the "Plus" was introduced with the intent to reduce emissions.

IMO..on the new engines... you should adjust the oil pump a bit richer than specified by the factory. I will speculate that the factory cannot recommend this to the dealers as more oil will raise the emissions of the sled... something that the factory would be limited by their EPA certification process. IMO, simply put, the factory cannot make any recommendations to consumers or the dealer network to alter any of the adjustments that will increase emissions of the engine. That would include decreasing the fuel : oil ratio (for example going from 50:1 and increasing the oiling of the engine to say... 45:1 or 40:1)

If better quality oil with a stronger film strength and heat resistance can be slightly increased in volume... I believe that wear on the motor will be decreased to some degree.

Now dont get me wrong... there is a point at which more oil will decrease the performance of the engine... at what point that will happen is the question... and what is the balance of performance vs longevity. That is beyond my scope of experience... But, IMO, a little bit more oil is not going to hurt your performance.

Would a 40:1 ratio with today's synth oils, give any noticeable decrease in the performance of the engine? Would that 40:1 ratio decrease the power output or change the operational character of the engine?

For example, how much decreased performance is realized when, on a motor that is broken in and past the break in timer on the ECU, you add some premix to the tank??

HMMM.. more to ponder.

MH, would you think the manufacturers would sacrifice longevity of the engines for increased emissions performance?

Be careful Eric. There's at least 1 person on these here forums that might rip ya for the oil comment. Which I agree with you 100%

Very nice shop us wrencheads really appreciate something that nice

Ruffy...it's a gamble by the manufacturers

Hey MH thanks for your helpful input, but I think this time you missed the real issue. There is lubricity, viscosity...slikeryness etc. but what’s really important is.... does it stink or smell good!! LOL:noidea:
