My New Gun!

sorry i'am just old school. i prefer the traditional rifles. rem 700 or bars.

blu.. the rem700 and bars are amazing i own several.. but for some people that ar's are the best option.. expecially yote hunting in an area with large amounts of dogs coming to a call.. they work very well.. :D..

Not sure if i like what REm is doing with the AR market but it seems to be popular..

Welp different strokes for different folks. I happen to like just about all types of firearms, I was so pleased with my AR I figured this would be great since it has a little more bang to it...

jizzo... the 40-xs from rem is a great shooter.. but you might want to do some checking before you buy one.. there is a lot of other rifles out there that will outperform it for less money..

i just don't see what you people see in those type of guns

What do you mean by that?

The AR based rifle is a VERY accurate semi-automatic platform that can, almost indefinitly, be customized to fit the shooters needs. The expansion of the AR-10 based rifle has opened the door for modern hunting calibers, including .243, which makes an excellent deer/predator rifle, which, again, is highly accurate, and being semi-automatic, an also be used for home defense.

Basically, the AR rifle is a more versitile version of any other semi-automatic hunting rifle, like a Browning BAR or Benelli R1.

Ya i was originaly told they run in the $2500 range but just got a quote on one today for $4600..... screw that!

I don't understand why people buy Harleys or snowmobiles either, maybe because we can!

I own a DPMS Mark 12 AR-15, This will be my next upper for it.

Blu - I hold much respect for the venerable Remington 700's. My primary hunting rifle is a Rem 700. However, the AR platform is the rifle of choice for thousands of people because of its versatility. For hunting, you can get AR platform rifles in a variety of calibres. The one drawback for hunting is weight. AR's generally weigh considerably more than a bolt action rifle or even the BAR.

For two-gun or three-gun shooting matches or competitions, it's difficult to find someone involved who isn't using an AR platform rifle. Check it out sometime. IDPA and IPSC matches are a ton of fun, safe, generally family-oriented, and great practice. Spend some time with an AR and they can quickly become addicting.

i am sure they would be fun. hell shootin anything is fun but i just can't see my self taking a 15 to my deer stand in the north woods of mn. some day if the economy gets going again i may check one out if nobama doesn't wreck it first. who was that outdoor writer that wrote the arcticle about how unethical the 15 are for game hunting, he lost his job his sponsors all over night.

Here is my last purchase a few years ago, beautiful isn't she(mine has a silver scope to match)..... Couldn't be more happy with the T/C encore. So many options and will last forever if you take care of them right. An encore w/ different barrels,a Benelli shotgun, and a .22 REM is all a guy would ever need. I've personally never been a fan of AR because the only thing I ever use a rifle for is hunting (other than the .22 for plinking every now and then). I'm not against people owning an AR just as I am not against someone owning a yamaha lol. But I dont see myself picking up an AR and unloading at something. To each his own I guess.

I would question the hunting ethics of someone using an AR in .223 (or 5.56 NATO) for hunting deer, but it is extremely popular here for sage rats and rock chucks.

Other than being so heavy, an AR in .308, in 6.5 Grendel or 6.8 SPC would be fine for deer. An AR in .308 would work fine on elk. I can't imagine packing one all day while hunting elk, but to each his own.

That's one of the beautiful things about the 2nd Amendment, it's not based on personal preferences. Some like Dodges, some Fords, some Chevy. Could you imagine if the government said the only snowmobile you could own was a __________ (insert least desirable brand here).

Why do YOU PEOPLE have to draw a line when it comes to gun owners? Do you not realize that YOU PEOPLE are part of the problem?

Let me guess, you were one of THOSE PEOPLE that was a Jim Zumbo fan?
