My dog passed away.....love ya buddy!!!

This is not a typical thread for me and seems a bit creepy.....but he was family and its best others know how i truly feel about "a mans best friend".

My 8 year old pitbull named “Kobe” passed away in our home last night shortly before midnight. We was battling lymphoma cancer for the last few weeks. Im a guy who treats his pets as family so Chemotherapy was the only option. At the beginning, Docs said he had a 85% chance for a full recovery. He never responded to the chemo very well and nothing seemed to work. The docs constantly assured us he never felt any pain though this whole process as this type of cancer is not painful with dogs. I can only prey he never felt pain. I don’t want to get into the details of how it happened as it only makes me break down.

A few memories of “A mans best friend”

1- He was raised around two cats until 6 months old, so he had a few characteristics of what cats act like (be it good or bad). He would sleep in a ball and loved to cuddle. He always pawed at the grass after he took his business. He sniffed everyone like a cat would. And people thought he was the perfect cat in a dogs body. Understand everyone who knew his wanted to take him home because he was so sweet and reflected nothing of a stereotypical pitbull was.

2- He would bite and pick up a tree limb 4 times the weight of this own body and lift his back two legs off the ground to balance to weight, he would run in a goofy manner with only his two front legs, gasping for air he would run like the wind……the little guy had heart. And he was a runt, only 50lbs full grown, most thought he was still a puppy and this is what kept him so cute

3- We watched out other dog (choc lab) swim and retrieve logs and freebies in a lake for his first two years. We waited and cryed on the shore until he returned each time……most pitbull owners know most wont swim. Well he got sick of watching her have fun on day and finally took the plunge. He never looked back and swam more then the lab would…..that’s heart!

4- He would dive for salmon when we lived in Alaska….he never got one, but he knew something was alive under him in the water. It was a site to see, he could dive for salmon and not return to the surface for over 30 seconds…that’s heart!

5- A good friend named Ken (Indyman96) would come over and load up to ride. I would wait until Ken had his hands full and send the hounds loose…..Ken would drop all his gear and Kobe was always the first to reach “Uncle Ken”…..Kobe knew him as “Uncle Ken”…..Ken would lay in the lawn or front driveway and give Kobe all the love he wanted.

All in all, I knew we gave him a great life…..and he gave us many many great memories, miss ya buddy (Kobe)

prayers to ya hatchers...almost as hard to loose a family pet as a close loved one..they truely are family...have lost a few over the years..never gets any easier....but man are they great friends...... a salute to kobe....:beer;:beer;

Sorry to hear this hatchers....those who say dogs are not family, have never had one in the family. They are as much of the family as any of my boys. :rose::brokenheart:

Sorry to hear that.:(

Some of the best friends I have ever had have been dogs.

That was my favorite part about coming to your house every weekend (other than to ride) was to play with your dogs. I travel to much for work to own a dog, but Kobe and his chocolate girlfriend would make up for it. Every time i got out of my truck i would see the garage opening and Ray commanding "attack" or "kill" as i was walking up. I would immediately get bombarded by Kobe and he would start sniffing to see what i had been up to the previous week. I loved scratching him on his side to get his rear right leg spooled up like a turbo, he loved it too. Then I would chase him around the yard as if I had a chance of catching him, he always got away. He would always interrupt us when we were working on sleds to get us to throw a ball for him. Of course he always got his way

So sorry to hear bro.:brokenheart:

Ahhh.... I'm so sorry about you losing such a special family member. You brought tears to my eyes and I felt sad and happy. He was a lucky dog to have such a caring family. And you were lucky to have such a wonderful unique pet. Your words written about your dog are great. I could feel how much he'll be deeply missed and never forgotten.

i feel for ya man. I am 16 almost 17 and i had a dog that passed away earlier this year that was like two months older than me. I loved that dog and had lots of fun growing up with her. Very sad. I love dogs!

Rico and I send our condolences.

Why our Buddy's don't live as long as us:

'People are born so that they can learn how to live a good Life -- like loving everybody all the time and being nice.

Dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long.'

True statement! I'm a dog lover too! Sad to hear Ray!

Sad and Sorry to hear Ray.:(
Been in the same deal but had to put mine down due to pain. I couldn't be in the room.
On a good note, they leave behind a lot of good memories.;)

Dang that sucks! Ray, last I heard he was doing better and was putting on weight.

Sorry for the your loss.:brokenheart:

R.I.P. Kobe:rose:

Ray, So sorry to hear about your loss. I had to put down my 15 year old lab in January. By far the hardest thing I have EVER had to do in my life! You will always have the memories. :brokenheart:
