Music for sleddin?

I don't agree. After reading about this a year or so ago, I took a BCS Tracker and an Ortovox beacon out in the yard and tested them out. My findings were that the transmit mode is not affected by an iPod that is playing music. However the search function on both beacons was distorted when the searcher had an ipod playing and the ipod was too close to the search beacon. Sometimes it was a large distortion sometimes just a little. I did not test for mobile phone interference.
The lesson I took away from this was if you are searching you better have the ipod turned off, something that could be easily overlooked in the aftermath of an avy with your buddy buried.

Thanks akstormin for clearing that up, that is what i meant to say the first time. If you do listen to music or have your phone on or any electrical device you must turn it off before you use them to search.... But my question is that if someone gets buried and has an ipod playing, wont that interfere with those trying to use the search feature to find this person?

Its been awhile since I messed around with this, but I seem to remember that as long as the ipod was a few feet away from the search beacon there was no problem. So an ipod that is on the victim should not be close enough to affect things. I personally wouldn't bet my life on it, which is why I don't ride with an ipod.

Seems to make sense, but im like you i dont want some music to be the reason that my beacon wont work in a dire situation. Dont get me wrong i like music just as much as the next guy, but its just another additional thing to mess with and plus its nice to enjoy the steady rumble of my exhaust

Helmet Speakers ?

Looking to replace ear buds with helmet speakers, does anyone have any experience with "Tork X-2" or "Thumper 1" speakers ? Any recommendation's would be greatly appreciated.

Lamb of God!

Yeah they're unreal live! saw them in '08 when they were on tour for the release of Wrath!

Also try...

Anything by Exodus! Other bands I'm listening to now are 3 Inches of Blood (Canadian), Earth Crisis and Megadeth's new album.

interesting. i ride with a simple iPod shuffle on my glove, i would've never guessed it could interfeir with my beacon. what concerns me more is my iPhone i keep in my chest pocket for emergency calls.... guess i need to make sure its powered off until i use it. thx for the info.

for OP - as i said i use $50 iPod shuffle clipped to my sleeve/glove, works great cause you can run controls with your gloves & its cheap if it gets broken.. for earphones i use Sony MDREX310LP In-Ear Headphones($50 on amazon). the flat design lays flat in your ear - comfortable with a helmet & stay put better than regular style ear buds.

- when you are WOT on the hill w/o earphones - who are you guys kidding, you can't hear your friends yell avalanche, tree, look out, or a dang thing...
as far as riding with this style ear buds, it muffles the sled noise, similar to riding with ear plugs - you can still hear your sled. having said that, i dont ride with them cranked to the max either, i like to hear whats going on around me...
