Muddy Creek Lot

Omg, really? When's the last time this got plowed? Was going to stay overnight but the lot was full of stuck vehicles! The only guy with chains towed everyone out. This is ridiculous! All that area along the highway and they can't make a place to park. Should be interesting in the am.

No offense there vohkman, but what I think is ridiculous is the fact that there are sledders out there who knowingly haul 30'+ trailers into the mountains during winter and don't bring along CHAINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It makes us look worse than stick fairy's driving Subaru's with summer tires on:face-icon-small-coo

I guy with chains was stuck! Let me give you more info, so you can see my frustration. We got up there Friday afternoon. The roads were dry all the way to the parking lot. I understand plowing us 40 is top proriority and having chains is important. But the hwy was dry, so when you make the turn into the parking lot with a trailer you are assuming its plowed (yes my own fault), now you are commited because of the trailer. I stopped when I saw another guy stuck and tried to back out, that's when I got stuck. I do carry chains (don't forget where you got yours there buddy), but another guy without a trailer had his on it was easier just to pull me out. You can't see if it's plowed due to snow banks and because us sleders pack it down with are sleds it always looks plowed. At this point everything points to it being my own fault because I didn't do a drive by, right? It only snowed a few inches that night and none the next night. Sunday afternoon comes and the road still were dry both saturday and Sunday and I drove in the lot on my sled and only the same trailers that were there Friday morning we're in the lot. So all weekend with dry roads everywhere no one could use the lot except for people that wanted to chain up and many people had to dig out or get towed out. Each night the lot was empty and a plow could have easily went in and do a loop IMO!

Oh, I wasn't referring to you buddy...didn't even know you had gotten stuck (and I do remember where I got my chains from).

I just always think of those guys pulling fancy $50k toy haulers who come smoking in there like their $60k jacked up Ford/Chevy/Dodge ain't ever going to get stuck because...well...they have a set of $3k mud tires on it:face-icon-small-hap All this and they have forgotten that a set of $200 chains were left at home because they were too busy packing their $20k worth of sleds into the trailer;)

I think I reached the point I could care less if I ever tried to park @ muddy creek again this year ... I've only been up there once so far this year and I haven't had a single bit of desire to go back.

I know i've been railing against the parking lot expansion and I had a solid reason for doing that, but how screwed up that place has obviously been this year actually supports my original position ..... the feds and the state need to open up more public land to ride on. Period.

Anyone drive over from the west side? Curious if those lots were plowed. Now that would be a direct kick in the nuts, or punch in the boobs depending on who you are.

Dumont was plowed... I don't like parking there at all, ever... but it beat getting stuck in MC. I choose to dig out my sled, not my truck :face-icon-small-win

Hmm. Must be the big heavy a$$ trailers, if your talking about the lot thats back in the trees we rolled in/out Friday in a stock 06 Dodge with $hit tires and a 3 place open trailer :face-icon-small-hap Might have helped that the trailer set a little higher than most.

Yes totally mis understood this, sorry. I was frustrated that the average Joe can't use this lot. Yes your right without an expensive set up this lot sucks. I will just park on hwy now.

Ya'lls that are sick of the Rabbit Ears lots need to pick-up some free maps from the forest service and realize that it is NOT the only place to go in northern CO.

The only way the lots will get plowed is the FS takes it over like VP. Or maybe a snowmobile club???

Tough to plow when people are leaving vehicles overnight, people camping out, etc.

They could easily plow the main roundabout though... that's not even a question. There's no reason to leave that place the disaster it is.

Btw, I went up a couple weeks ago on a sat in the middle of the day & it was a mess, and down the road I stopped into a skier parking lot (wheel bearing went out, had to leave my truck there & hitch into town, Tucker & I had a fun little adventure that day... funny how easy you catch a ride with a baby in your arms :D ) and the skiers lots were all well taken care of.

I have gotten stuck the last 3 times I have tried to park @ MC. It's absolutely ridiculous that the lot is in that bad of shape. I shouldn't need chains to get in the parking lot when it's obvious that there isn't any fresh / deep snow.

I'm always up for new riding areas. Where are you riding? I'm looking to ride at least the next 3 weekends. Lets go!

I don't mean to hijack and i know this isn't the place to advertise…
But I have a set of chains that i would like to get rid of for the right deal. They fit on 35x12.5 tires. When I bought my new truck I put some 33's on it so my chains no longer fit. PM me with a offer if interested..
