Is the rear shock supposed to look like this?

Doesn't rebound on its own, and is really light on the compression and rebound damping. It has been a while since I have owned a non HPG shock, but I would assume that it should rebound on its own, right?

Doesn't matter as it has been transformed into this.:p

Mine was like that after 200 km or so.. I put a ohlins in the rear and tweaked my torsion springs in a press to make them stiffer works much better now... Which shock did you use??

It is a KMOD rear suspension kit with a Fox zero pro coilover. Looks really good too. The kit doesn't replace the front shock though, but it should help in the bumps.

I couldn't believe the shock was already toast, I only got 500 miles on it. I could feel it getting much worse the last couple of rides.

I think the seal is what blew, as when I push it in and pull it back out again, there is water/fluid on the shaft.

if anyones looking i got a brand new take off nytro rear susp. will sell it for $400 never been ridden

They are a hydraulic shock and offer little support, I replaced mine with a gas shock and made a great difference. But KMOD or Timbersled is still the best choice.

man, I knew that link was going to have something to do with a seal, but I clicked on it anyway.

got the KMOD in, looks much better. It has a real shock too. I haven't had a hydraulic shock since my 80 El Tigre Fanner..... at least the stock front shocks were light

Yamaha should fire there entire shock department, its honestly embarrassing they would send these awesome sleds out on the market with these pathetic suspensions.

Post up on the Kmod, i've never had a chance to try one. Anything is better than what you originally had so im sure it's a welcome addition.

i will 2nd 3rd &4th that i cant beleave yammi gives the trail guys the ohlins & gytr & does not even try to give us a choice. it really pi$$es me off that yammi doent even offer a snow check shock package.i would gladly pay a exta 1500$ right now for a complete set of ohlins ,gytr or floats than pay for the crap shocks,then have to pay 2500$ after the fact to get a good set of shock.it is the one area i think yammi really lags behind in & would love to see them step up for us mountain guys.:(sorry for the rant:D:beer;

Haha, vector that's not a rant, it's so fuggin true.

There's shocks that hold the rear hatch door to my Mom's minivan that are better than what the put on there mountains sleds. Thats no joke either.

Ummmm, do they not think that even a rebuildable shock would be a welcome edition ? We (mountain riders) pound them fuggin 11 foot long 600lbs pigs up and down 3' snocross track like trails for upwards of 20kms to get to the good stuff some days, and they ship them out with the ultimate worst shocks in the sled industry.

I havent even started......... lol

So I got a new front shock from KMOD to replace the front track shock with a zero-pro also. I found the same non-rebounding of the stock shock and week damping for compression. I would comment on rebound, but my arms aren't that strong! I will post up on how everything works this weekend. Though, it will be mostly powder riding! he he he

The rear shock is oil only, not gas,so yes it is supposed to look like that.

According to the website, the 08 rear shocks are KYB gas. Is this a misprint? I would think a gas cell shock should still rebound on its own? hmmmmmm.
