Michele and I took Zoe and Chloe (daughter and her friend who are both 13years old) up to the top of St Helens this past Saturday. The climb is about a 9-10 mile round trip with abotu 4500 foot of gain ending at 8350'.
I am happy to say that everyone made it to the top and both kids were happy with their accomplishment of hiking to the top of St Helens. Especially since Chloe suffers from exercise induced asthma. That god we brought the inhaler... LOL!!!
We did not set any speed record (5 hours, 45 minute ascent) but that was not the point of this summit. Actually, I thought I would hear a lot more complaining then I did. We had a plan of hiking in 30 minutes not stop chunks and then a 5 minute break and that plan seemed to work very well, although the 5 minutes break probably were closer to 10 minutes.
Anyways, I am very proud of the kids and I am hopefully I can talk Zoe (my kid) into doing some larger peaks in the coming years. Although, I do not think she could stop me if my fat azz started falling down a hill if we were roped up...
The kids had a blast glissading (sliding on your butt) down the hill. We probably slid downb the mountain a total of 1 mile the first part being at least 1/2 mile long run. You can definitely haul some booty coming down the hill.
And before you ask, NO, there is no more snowmobiling left to be had for this year on the mountain... You shall have to wait til next year
I hope to have some pics of our adventure later this week...
Later,
MC
