I will be moving there next season to ride.. , hows the riding in your area?

riding monday

When are you going? I'll be out there monday for a ride I'll let you know how it goes.

Sunday 28th.
After looking at Google Earth. Looks like I should head north on forest road from smith butte.

I was at Orr last weekend which is on the other side. No more than 8" last week

Not sure of this "Smith Butte" area... there is Lone butte snow park which is a little more west. Flattop, atkinson and snoking are out of Trout lake area. Have a pretty good group going up Sunday to break in the new RMK's. Snotel shows 15 inches at 4k elevation with another 6-ish inches on the way tomorrow. Haven't ridden out of Orr creek but the south side would take some time off your trip. If you want to ride the mtn Snoking is your best bet.

There's def not 15" at 4k. Its closer to 5" of ice with snow blown into the low spots. Hopefully get something with this next shot of snow because not looking good next week.

I only picked smith butte because it looks to be he highest elevation.
Where is a god place to get a map of the area.
Looking at Google there is a lava flow on the south side. Looks like there may be good riding to the east of lava flow up around 6K.
We ride off trail but looks like we will need to get above burns to get deeper base.

I found a map from 07 and it looks like everything up high is closed. I that correct? Looking for some tree riding with 4+ feet of base.

Looked up which sno park you were referring to.. I think that you may have to park along the road coming out of snoking before you can get to smith butte at this time. As for a map, the local ranger station has some I believe. Be careful when you are on the Mtn tomorrow though, there is a "moderate-considerable" avy warning from NWAC.

Looks like from snoking you just go up forest service roads until you get high enough to go into the trees.

Smith Butte isn't really a sno-park as much as a the end of the plowed road...

I rode Adams yesterday and there's no way I'd drive from Bend to ride those conditions! Very little snow, super icy and it'll be avalanche city with new snow this weekend.

Snotel shows 16" of new with it cooling down this week it should be fine.

I rode Sunday and once you get up into the tree line there was 2ft of fresh on a solid base. Best day I've had in a while. Best to go up south climb but if you've never been its easy to get lost. Should be able to follow our tracks now. just be aware of the wilderness boundary its not marked yet and they will ticket if you go too high in elevation, marked or not.
