MPI Turbo

I left the foam but cut three slots in it. The slots are about an inch wide or so and seems to keep the pre filter off the metal. Before cutting, filter plugged up bad on a 2 degree day. I've only rode once since cutting the holes in the foam and it wasn't nearly as cold but no issues that time.

I saw another post about using a john Deere part to get a 45 degree up turn for the intake. If the holes don't work a snorkel will be next.

I'm going straight to the snorkel - my issue wasn't with icing it was just the amount of snow building up when doing turns and running in deep snow.

I have two rotopax storage units stacked on the tunnel behind the intake, so that is probably not helping things either....

Hopefully I can have something put together before my next ride.

How many lbs boost is everybody running and at what elevation?

I am only seeing just under 5 at 9500ft. This is with the wastegate rod turned in 2 full turns from the factory position. I just turned it in 2.5 more turns tonight and will give it a try.

From the factory I was around 4.5 - 5 psi. Now that I have a few hundred miles on the sled I've turned it up to about 6.5 psi for 7000 - 8000 ft. For this year I think i'll be happy with it there. I'd like to get it up to about 8 psi in the end though. I do still need to figure out clutching, it works with mpi recommended clutch setup but I think the secondary is back shifting to much under boost.

I have no idea what my boost is - I know I am turning more RPMs now than I was on the first ride (new 2012 with the spring order turbo install) but that is probably just the sled/drivetrain loosening up....

I ordered a boost gauge on Monday. I'll see what I was running "from the factory".

i rode a push nytro last winter in deep power and in heavy spring snow never had any issues with the rear mount filter !! look at what chris browns mcx rear mount goes through..

It is the light fluffy "dry" powder that is packing around the filter especially when doing powder turns and when side hilling in powder.

In all other conditions the intake works fine. I rode a push turbo on a 2011 sled last year and it would have the same issues in the powder that I am having issues with my setup. I have 2 stacked rotopax behind the filter - there is nowhere for the snow to go.

I have ridden both and from my experience I believe that if I would have had both setups that day both would have plugged. My solution is to spend a few bucks and build a snorkel for the powder days, that I can easily change out back to "stock".
