MPI Turbo intake freezing up

Hey guys, anyone have a solution to the intake freezing up on the rear mount systems? My kit has a tunnel dump exhaust but there is always snow onto the air filter and my boost pressure goes way down on a climb. Ive seen people put a 90 degree elbow onto the intake and Ive heard other people put another prefilter over the existing one. Anyone have a good suggestion for this?

Rear Mount Turbo Snorkle

Most rear mount turbo guys are running snorkels. I have an MCX and used Napa radiator hose part number 8115 and a 2" or 2 1/2" diameter piece of exhaust pipe splice to attach the radiator hose to the existing turbo inlet. The second pre-filter won't help you bring in more air, just help keep more snow out of your engine.

This works good for me.

X2 on this. I used to suffer the same thing. Not any more, plus it makes a great hanger for your helmet when you stop for lunch.

With the MPI kit you will only need the elbow since you already have the pipe that attaches to the turbo. The elbow I got from NAPA had a spring in it. I took it out and have had zero freeze up since.

X 4 (or 5 or whatever number we are up to) on the snorkel.

I made my situation worse by running rotopax on the rear of the tunnel so snow would build up even faster. I put the snorkel on and have not had any issues since then.

I have the snorkel on my rear mount & still had issues all wknd with it freezing up. But I also can a 10L jerry can right behind snorkel.
Will try with out the extra fuel next ride & see if that helps. Hope so.
Snow was deep & excellent to play around in untill the intake plugs off & you loose power.

Snorkel is great I don't know why it didn't come with one, They recommend the"deep snow mod" but don't mention this? I got mine from eBay item# 261092836649 it's less than $10 and really did show up! Fits perfect Best part it's Yamaha blue.

Mine isnt even plugging up from snow that gets onto the tunnel, its just like a fine mist that sticks onto the prefilter.

Cut the foam off of it like BOOSTD said. I also treat my prefilter with the camp dry stuff. Buy it at wally world used for treating boots and other water resistant fabrics.

I spray on my prefilter as per directions on the can and it repels more snow and moisture than untreated.

Had very good success with just water proofing spray on the pre-filter, but I also have 2 QRS on the rear tunnel and they seem to help keep snow out of the area. I don't like the filter sticking up so my foot hits it.
