MPI guys

What is everyone runnin for fuel, and at what elevation? I have been runnin straight 100 unleaded, but was thinking of going 50/50 91/112. I have even heard of some guys going with just 91 at 8-10,000ft. Is that safe? I am talking about the 11lbs kit.

The reason I bring all of this up here, is because I have been told that running too much octane can actually cause performance problems. I always figured that it would never hurt to run extra octane. Just a little insurance.

Nytro Stage 2, 11-12 lbs...I run 100ll avgas at 3-6k in Western WA. 800 miles last seaon on this setup with no issues.

My initial plan was filling with straight 114 or on ten at the trailer, then topping off with pump gas when we stop for lunch to make a 50/50 mix. Unfortunately I never could get far enough from my trailer the whole season to make my fuel gauge move. Thats riding the snowies 8-10k.

fuel

I run 50/50 mix with 114. THe cost of fuel for a bit of insurance is a lot cheaper the the cost of a motor if it detinates.

I just called Hartman and they don't even do a kit for the Phazer anymore eventhough it's offered on their web site. According to Tom, the motor won't hold up.

140 hp on stage I or II? What fuel requirements for each and how much hp would a stage II kit make?

Are you saying straight 114 is bad? How do go out with 50/50 for a whole day of riding when you never get back to your trailer? WFO!!!!!!!

Not sure I understand what you're saying. Are you saying you cant pre-mix your fuel in an extra can before you go riding?

And yes, if you dont need the higher octane fuel, it could be contributing to your issues.

Not saying that at all. Can be done easily. But when you go out from sun up til after dark like we do. And ride hammer down. How do you take enough? We fill and ride til half or quarter tank then find somewhere to fill. Probably not gonna haul 8 gals. along all day. Also MPI recommends 50/50 or better yet 100% race fuel with their s/c.

Cool, wasn't understanding what you were asking.

Can you take a 5 gal can and drop for the ride back?

Do a little research on what fuel to run for boost level. I understand MPI wants to be conservative for liability reasons (I would too, if I were them). BUT, for under 10lbs, pump gas is very safe, especially at your altitude. I run a stage 2 (12lbs) in WA (3-6k) and run straight 100ll av gas. 800 miles last season from March - July with NO issues.

A Nytro motor is different than a Phazer. Not saying it is not possible, but I know the Phazer calls for premium in stock form, whereas the Apex calls for just regular. I don't know about the Nytro, but this tells me that a Phazer with any boost needs more octane. I wish there was a boost/fuel calculator for the Phazer like there is for the Apex & Nytro. That calculator seems to work well for people.

10-4 the calculator. Since Im new to boost and having all these troubles. Makes me want my mod viper back. Its gods now, and the insurance companies. Due to 7 fools at the snowies. LOL

Did you get your sled back up and running good? if not let us know so we can help you get it running, Thanks Skyler 1-888-649-4609

Skyler thanks for the reply. I Heath PMd me and I called and talked to him yesterday. My boxes will be on their way out there to get checked monday or tuesday then we will go from there. Headed to snowies over new years. Hope to have every possibility of it not running covered. Whats the fuel deal. Is straight 114 bad?

OK sounds good, no 114 is not bad it will not hurt your engine to run 114 but it might run better on 50/50, there are lots of different things that determine what octane you need to run, if your a high altitude guy i would go with the 50/50 set up with 91 or 93 pump gas and the 114 mix, if you are a low level elevation guy i would go with the straight 114. What brand of 114 fuel is it? If you have any questions call me or heath here at MPI we want to make sure your sled is running at 100% like it should with our kit, Thanks Skyler
