MPG: trailer vs. deck

I was tired of my sleds getting so dirty/thrashed while trailering on my 2 place open trailer, plus I hate messing with covers. I didn't want to buy an enclosed because of the fuel prices going up so much. I ended up buying one of these for my 2 place. http://www.toesters.com/twoplacephotos.asp
It took some time to install, but my wife and I love it. Sleds stay clean and dry and it only weighs a couple hundred pounds. It sits just higher than the raised handlebars and doesn't flap down the freeway. I know guys, it is not pretty to look at but it tows light and does the job. It is also nice for getting your gear on when it is snowing.

me and my dad both have sled decks, my dad has a 2 place and 4 place open. i much perfer just load 'em on the deck and go. for early and late season ridign its the only way to go, around here soem of the roads can be a little hairy in the early season. and having a 40x60 shop with a 18ft ceailing make it nice for melting the sleds off before annother day of riding.

Going with a deck this year due to room. One buddy has a 10ft+2' V nose we crammed 3 sleds on and 1 in the box, was really crammed for room fitting 4 guys and gear in the truck/trailer. Plus every year everyone seems to be getting longer sleds, 12ft trailer isn't that long for 3 longtracks :p Not to mention, it takes forever loading when your really crammed for room. I doubt mileage will change with a deck, but it will be nice to have more room.

Has anyone ever converted their 2 place trailer over to a deck? Seems like it wouldn't be too hard and maybe save some $.....

The deck in all applications when talking MPG will win the war versus towing something behind you. Plain ol physics on that. As to how much? Don't know but think of hauling one sled in the bed versus one sled on a single trailer. You will not be able to notice the sled in the bed when it comes to MPG but you will notice it when pulling that sled and a trailer. Weight, wind resistence, drag of all the parts coming in contact with the road etc.

If I could just do two sleds, I would love to have a deck. I would put airbags on my 1/2 ton and it would be just fine.

flat bed truck

we use flat bed trucks. they have a lower center of gravity and the sleds are not up in the wind as much. I have a 2001 chevy for sale if anyone is interested.
