Upper Michigan & Alaska
Just wanted to say "Hello". I will be moving back to Michigan (Gwinn, in Da UP) this month from Alaska. I was originally from Michigan, spent my 1st 18 years there then joined the Air Force and got stationed in the UP at KI Sawyer Air Force base until they closed it. I have been in Alaska for the last 12 years and have been riding all over the state up here. I love powder riding, hill climbing and boon-docking. I look forward to riding back in Michigan, so if you don't mind a tag-along let me know!

trail riding? who does trail riding? yes, Michigan is mostly flat, yes there are trails. I would say the U.P. has some excellent deep snow boondocking and some climbing. We get on average 4-6 feet of snow on the ground each year in the lake effect snow areas. and where he's going, Gwinn is just south of Marquette. i ride in that area quite a bit each year, some secret spots that are tremendous when the conditions are right.

Thanks Mike, I guess it is better than being escorted to the state line. I will be back this spring for some hill climbing and boondocking!

Funny thing about powder riding in Michigan is back when I lived there last, know one made powder sleds so we had to build mods just to rip around "off" the groomed trails. The sad thing is the smallest powder sled now (500 or 550) will get around better than our old mod sleds would in the early 90's....
Now lots of people there have powder sleds, I am looking forward to meeting some new riders in the area.

Wow, sounds great! Are you guys from lower MI? I might have to make a couple trips out west each year too. I know I will go back to Alaska each spring for some T-shirt mountain riding. Maybe I need to see if some people want to go up with me each year??? Just a thought....

This is your best bet for information on sledding in the Yoop, awesome sight with lots of cameras for the different cities.

I think you will like the forum and will get a lot of information from the locals. Dont't forget www.pasty.net this is good as well, but more for local happenings versus all sledding.

Seems weird to hear of somebody moving To Michigan anymore. Everyone is leaving lately.

Welcome back!!!!!....and the UP, well if you can't have fun there, your in a coma.

Don't get to the UP much anymore myself...Bought a bin in the northern lower(Mancelona). Trails are busy but the boondocking is great.

One of my best freinds from here moved out to Soldotna and worked at the north slope

We are from central Wi, but do 90 percent of our riding in the U.P. Mostly the Twin Lakes area up to the Keweenaw. Awesome powder, in the lake effect areas. We do climb hills, not like they have in AK, bit it is very technical because of all the trees.

Our group consists of an 06 Switchback 144x2, 05 900 RMK 151x2, 07 RMK 600 155x2,4, 08 M8 153x2.25, 02 RMK 700 144x2.

Once you are settled in, let us know, we try to get to the Twin Lakes area once a month for 2-3 days each.
