moving to quesnel

No offence to you guys that get boners over yanks, and everything else around barkerville but if you're willing to drive an extra hour you can hook up with the p.g. crew and hit some real riding. I can't stand barkerville. I might make a trip there every couple of years just because the access is good early season but the whole time I'm dreaming of the pine pass,McBride and the McGregors. If you guys rode torpy, sande, gleason, anywhere in the pass, the Dore or kakwa you would probably look at yanks/wells/barkerville the same as the rest of us that know where the good riding is. But by all means ride yanks since it is close to you and really there isn't much else for you guys in Quesnel

Poorider, can I ask if you drive an extra hour to PG, then where do you ride from in PG, or do you really mean drive over an hour actually to PG, then drive another couple hours, then drive the same 3 or 4 hours back at the end of the day? Get realistic with the time is all.It is nice to live in PG, closer to Mcbride etc, but for most, it's a pain in the **s to go all that distance. You are better to drive south to Blue River for all that hassle and stay a few days.
Yanks is good, and there are a lot of other places if you actually know where to go, outside the groomed trail areas.

agreed

and williamslake has some ggod riding as well......i would think the crew in quesnel will hook ya up...the murray and pk area good 2 hours from prince...there are some steep high lead loggiing blocks that rock about 40 mins from pg and a small mountain area the coal mine about 45 mins from pg as well

wienerwater, how long does it take to drive from your house in quesnel (I'm guessing) out to where you would typically unload to ride yanks?? I'm vaguely saying add a long hour to that which is about how long it takes to drive to p.g. and hook up with some guys here to go riding. Am I really that far off?
Just to put it in perspective, it would take me about the same time to drive to yanks as it would to drive to the pine pass,Kakwa or to McBride from my house, and it would take me just over half that time to ride out to the McGregors. To me that says a Quesnellian can add just over an hour to my time to get to the same spots. Yanks is still last on my list.
I'm not saying you guys are wrong for recommending yanks because obviously it is the closest thing you can get to alpine riding near Quesnel, I'm just giving the o.p. some options other than "ride yanks, it's the best around"
Oh ya, trust me I've seen pretty much everything the barkerville area had to offer a looong ways off the groomed trail and I'd still rather not head south

Ya i have way more fun say northeast of P.G. so to come that far is kinda out of my way, that being said if you want yanks is alright for 1 weekend out of the year mostly early season depends on where you like to ride, go check it out!!!

Man you move around alot Greg. finally decent snow in Golden this year!

Never rode in the Pine Pass, but it sure looked nice driving through. Saw it from the top from the mine I worked at near there, and the riding looked incredible.

rode yanks yesterday and had nothing but powder and no tracks. we looked over at round top and you could see lots of tracks. we moved into all the meadows all day and had nothing but a blast with lots of carving. Its no Valemount but alot less sleds. about 4 hours to Mcbride for my house so weekend trip would be in order. saw vid of torpy looks nice, where do you off load?? Cheers

Torpy/Sande you have to drive down the upper fraser road to hansard bridge, across the fraser and unload at the old mcgregor camp. Rode it yesterday was a beauty day, only problem with going there is it's about a 45k road ride before you head up to the hills which really sux. Also there is usually a ton of sleds out there so the road gets pretty mogully. The p.g. club has been grooming it periodically the last couple of years so it's not so bad sometimes.

Poorider...it takes maybe an hour to Barkerville, or the X road...short ride and your in the mountains. I am just getting at the drive from Quesnel to PG and past can be a pain. You figure this time of year, the time to get up, leave, arrive, ride what, 35-40KM to get to the area, and then heading back...it's a long day is all. Sure, nice areas, but also as mentioned, there is nice riding to the south of Quesnel as well.Depending on your sled, I would rather burn my C12 in the mountains then on a trail....but agreed, it's a nice play area if you are close enough such as those living in PG.
