Mountain Max to Phazer

i currently am riding a mountain max 700 and it is time to move on to a newer sled. i am a yamaha man so i was looking at the 4 strokes. i was looking into a phazer because they are a little bit cheaper than nytros and apexs. is a phazer a good choice?

Phazer

I have 2 New 80hp Phazers and they are just that. Don't get me wrong for a beginer sled they are great but you'll out grow it quickly. My 12 year old is already staking out his claim for a M8, after seeing him in the powder this past week, I'm incline to agree. Hang out and get a Nytro or Apex. I have an Apex and it's an acquired taste.

if you plan on just trail riding, slow, then a phzer would be fine... but if you want to get bad with it you better get a nytro or apex.

i like the apex cuz I am a bigger guy and its more comfy for me..

Powerwise the Phazer will be a substantial downgrade from the MM. There's a reason they are cheaper than the Nytros. The Nytro is where you want to be.

M5

I agree with the posts above...

I graduated from a MM 700 to apex in 06 when they came out... I have never riddent he Nytro or new Phazer, but I will testify that being a bigger guy, you will want to got with one of the bigger to sleds... KEEP IN MIND though... what ever you graduate to, it will be kindergarden all over again in learning how to operate these new yamaha's.... My dad is still "re-taking tests" because old MM habbits are hard to break.....

Well guys I have disagree with the Nytro suggestion.
If you want a powerful Mountain sled you have to get a Polaris or Arctic Cat or Ski-Doo the Nytro is just not a Mountain sled. It works you too much and it's too heavy. I test rode the Nytro at Togwotee a couple weeks ago and right after I got off it I rode a M6; not even close! The M6 handles much better and won't work a guy to death.
I would go with the Phazer and ride it! They won't go where the big Mountain sleds will but they do a lot better than what these guys are saying.

I own an Apex an two Phazer MTX's and have rode the Nytro MTX alot. My choice is the Nytro. Stock it is a fun sled and where I took this one it will hang with the big boys. The Phazer's are a kids sled, fun to fool around on but just a little short in ponies for anyone over 180lbs. Spend the extra and get the Nytro

It's no secret that the 4strokes are more of a handfull than the 2's. I haven't ridden a Nytro but I have ridden a Phazer. Nice sled, very nimble when you get used to it. Not that I'm a big guy but the rear suspension was way too soft even cranked up.. You'll probably be begging for more power sooner rather than later. Heard good things about the Nytro, I ride a very stock Apex and I love it. just my $.02 :beer;

I suggest you spend some more seat time on a Nytro before bashing it so much. True, it's not the "king of the hill" in horsepower, but in one day there's no way you would get enough seat time to really LEARN how to ride it. It took me until my 4th or so time out to realize I was working it too hard. Now, after 1000+ miles in the mountains, it doesn't wear me out even half as much as my old Rev did. Stock form yields a lot of track poaching to get you to hang with the XP's and such, but throw on a Timbersled skid and a better track and you're breaking trail with them!! Monumental difference.

Anyway, I think I got my point across....

Very wise move, you wont be sorry. Dino:cool:

Couldn't agree more.....:)

This year I just made the exact upgrade that you are currently considering. I went from a 2000 MM 700 to a 2007 Phazer MTX. It's really two totally different worlds.
It's hard to say if the Phazer is right for you without knowing what type of riding you do. I'm a pretty conservative rider who spends most of the day playing in mountain meadows and on the trails. I don't lake race and I don't high mark so for me top speed is definitely not an issue. The issues I'm really having to adjust to with the Phazer are 1: TORQUE and tons of it compared to the MM 700. A set of brake pads should last the life of the machine as you really never have to use them. 2: TIPPY AS HELL! this is not a sit and ride sled. Always having to stand and work it. 3: Forward seating position. This I think I'm actually going to like once I get more saddle time.
Rode mine for the 3rd time today and I'm still not sure if I'm keeping it.
If you want to go faster than 75mph than the Phazer is not for you.

As with any NEW TO YOU sled it takes time to get the feel for the sled...went from a 96 670 to a 02 800 ZX thought I made the biggest mistake ever:eek: after half a season I loved the 02, just got a 04 800 Rev still getting used to it, after 4 or 5 rides I am getting the "feel" for it Bought a 08 Phazer for the daughter to ride when shes home from collage, she loves it...I ride it when its just the wifey and I bombing around, very fun ride, not your deep powder sled by no means but a hoot to ride none the less:face-icon-small-win Dino
