Mountain Max Suspension Advice

I am looking to upgrade my Mountain Max's rear suspension to a "better" mountain set up. I know some of you Mountain Max guys have change to other suspension such as a Polaris or Cat skid. What setups are you running and what works. I am in college so I don't want to break the bank but I would like to start looking at my options. I just need a suspension that works better than stock and is hopefully lighter. What advice do you fellas have for me? Right now my suspension is stock with 159" rail extension.

Before you drop a bunch of money on an old sled, I would try mountian performance inc's strap kit that eliminates the transfer rods. The kit is about $80 and you lose about 7 lbs. I did this to my ex-wife's mmax and it was a totally different sled. In a good way. I ride an 03 polaris veritcal escape, and the yammi behaved very similar after this mod. You could finally lift the front end when needed to or wanted to, yet it was not a wheelie monster either. That and a llight weight can were the best mods I ever did to that sled other than bar riser, gearing, clutchhing and jetting of course. Worth a shot before you spend alot on a mod suspension set up. You will need to adjust the spring on the rear shocks totally different since the will now be uncoupled. Basically, you will need to stiffen the rear rear shock way up.

My transfer rods are gone, I believe it already has the strap kit. I have never had a chance to see a stock mountain max up close so I don't know what to compare it to . I will list what I know the sled has. I have a 944 UBR engine with custom pipes from Richard Swenson, slp skis, light weight trailing arms, mesh hood, boss seat, ekholm 159 tunnel, 159 tunnel extensions, only 3 rear bogie wheels, rolled chain case, riser, DT33SN2 digatron, P-85 primary, team secondary, 159X2.52 track, works shocks, anti ratcheting drivers, and some other things I probably forgot to mention. It just feels like my front end is really heavy compared to th mod polaris sleds I am used to. Hopefully I could find a way to lighten that up and I know these sleds had issues with the angle of the skid.

I used a 141" cat skid set back for a 151" track on my SRX. Day and night difference over the Yammi skid. Take off cat skids are cheap, and it was a pretty easy mod.

Here is some pictures of the sled. Maybe someone will have some ideas of what else I can mod to shed some pounds and gain mountain performance.

Looks like you have all the big ticket lw stuff. Find a good deal on a skid and ride it like you stole it.:D

Well I kinda did steal it, I got a heck of a deal on the sled. I came from a big polaris fan family. Thats why I am making sure she is running top notch when I head home, so I can see how she compares with the old polaris mods.

First of all, I can finally transfer some weight! I am only a 140 lb rider so that has always been an issue for me. I decided to build this sled after I bought a new M7 141 in 05. After I put 400 miles on that sled I knew I had to long track this thing. I will tell you that the 1M skid has a LOT better ride than the skid in the M7 I had. And another plus is they already have 8" wheels, so no big wheel kit needed! I cut the spacer and added another adjuster block to make my own 2 wheel kit - probably cost me $10. I would have to look, but I think the middle factory holes in the tunnel lined up with the frt arm on the new skid.
