Motor Mounts on the 900's.... There is a good chance yours are broken.

If you have a 900 or 2006 700 (755) IQ... there is a good chance your motor mounts are broken (Torn).

There are a lot of reasons this happens....from the overall torque of the motor, to the position of the secondary clutch on the 2005's to super steep helixes, to poor construction to people
prying up on the motor to get access to parts.

Most of the 2005's that I've had apart have torn motor mounts... many of the 2006 I've done have the same thing.

Belt life, crankshaft failure poor performance and inconsistent running are all symptoms of these mounts going bad.... but some might not really notice with these new 3211115 belts on the sled...
but the performance will be down and this exposes your crankshaft taper to abuse and possible failure.

The fronts more than the rears... BUT if your fronts are ruined, the rears were probably damaged as they try to hold the motor in place by themselves.

The bummer is you cant tell if they are torn until you pull the motor.

It is good preventative maintenance to replace these as they are inexpensive from www.hiperf.com.. they only list the 2006's but they fit the 2005's as well.

#345-512 fronts, #345-513 rears

Listed for 2006 only, but they also fit the 2005's

Get your fuel filters for the 900/755'shere too.... cheaper than the dealer.

If you remove your stock mounts, to see the damage, put it in a vise as shown.

This pic shows a 2005 900 front motor mount. The mount was "laid over" in a vise to show the torn rubber.
This mount looked normal at first inspection!!

IMO, best to pull the complete engine and give yourself the ability to clean and check everything out.

I also strongly suggest replacing all the bolts in the mounts with Grade 8 or better (L-9 or ARP high strength bolts)
(4ea of #18, 2ea #9, 2ea, #16 fro the diagram below.

Now, if you want to go with the ultimate front mount that is basically a bolt in (you will only need to drill 4 holes)... go with Compfusion's mounts (compfusion is a members name on this forum)
super high quality stainless steel, urethane and aluminum components.

well said MH.

on my 05 900, when i bought the sled in june 08, it was just completely rebuil WITH new front motor mounts (in feb 08)..i rode the sled 1 season and in april 09 i pulled motor and BOTH front mounts were toast, 1 rear mount, and the stock torque arm was shot as well...

bought the wifes sled (06 700) shortly after (unsure last rebuild), but pulled motor sametime frame...had 1 torn rear mount

this 06 900 i just bought (last rebuild unsure), the front mounts were fine, but has 1 torn rear mount and stock torque arm is shot...

so as MH stated...the mounts NEED to be maintained alot if you do not do proper maintenance to your sled...you MUST.

--balance primary
--float secondary
--shim clutch for 3211115 belt
--proper clucthing in both clutches
--slp torque arm/slp push arm
--shim your OEM torque arm (just above the crank on PTO side, connected to PTO side engine brace

all this will significally increase your motor mount life AND your crank life..

----IMO, the #1 thing to do to save your motor from severe damage besides balancing the clutch, is to invest in some COMPFUSION MOTOR MOUNTS..they are an absolute MUST for these sleds ;)

Are the rear mounts from Hi-perf the same as the factory 06 Mounts? If so Babbitts list the 06 mounts for $24.86 and Hi-perfs are $42.95.

I have one more question I can't find the answer for. Can the front mounts and bar be pulled without pulling the engine? I already have to remove the intake boots and it looks like the mounts are out in the open once the exhaust Y and intake are off.

I'm almost certain mine are bad after reading all the posts. It ate belts like they were going out of style until they came out with the new belt. I had the clutch balanced too. It wasn't even close to being balanced from the factory. That did away with almost all vibration on the sled.

1800+ miles on my 06, only thing I've done is clutch it correctly and float the secondary...engine mounts are perfect (engine's out on the bench so I have actually checked em ;) ). Guess I got a good set.

Took my engine out this year.... both front and 1 rear mounts were cracked just like in mountainhorse's pic. They look fine until you lay them over in a vice.
Heed this mans advice, he knows the 900!

Actually, I defer to others that know this motor much more than I do... Like SuperDave_3 and other real Polaris techs among us.

well, you deserve your share of the props too... always handing the tech tips down to the masses! This sub is one of the most organized and informing around. Pretty impressive considering these motors were only in production for a couple years.

Just sent a payment off to Colin for the compfusion mounts. Still trying to find out if the Hi-Perf rear mounts are a factory 06 part? If they are I would rather get them from Babbitts and save $40.

Factory 2006 Side mounts are pretty much the standurd upgrade. I don't know that the Hi-Perf are better, worse or the same but I know most people use 06 mounts.

Thanks for the info. Just found out about polaris parts pitstop in another post and they have the 06 rear mounts for $23.06. Trying to get my list of parts together so I can get the sled back together. Now I just need to win the Lottery to pay for everything.

Thought i should take a look and torque and push arm shot, only one front broke. Got mine on order thanks MH
