MOTO TRAX SKI ISSUE I'VE OBSERVED

Anyone that has bought a 2017 Mototrax kit check the placement of carbide runners on the bottom of the ski. As you will find out the holes were drilled off center all 3 runners sit to one side of the ski.
While I was picking up parts (again) at Mototrax I brought this to their attention. I went with Zak to their storage garage we found that every ski was DEFECTIVE . Zak then brought this to the attention of Owner/Designer RANDY GENTRY
Randy feels that the runners being off center should not effect the ski's performance.
Words from Mototrax designer.
Anyone that has a Mototrax ski should demand a new ski from them. Do not let them get away with selling defective parts enough is enough.

I will try to post pictures but all you have to do is flip your ski up side down a look at it . All MotoTrax ski s have this flaw. One of many causes of Moto Trax poor trail riding problems .I have been riding snowbikes since 2011 new track every year. The defects on this system is the worst I have every seen
The owner RANDY GENTRY is in total denial of any flaws in his design

You can read up on Randy and the previous company he founded, frozen moto. Check out the customer experience history there. Hopefully not foreshadowing of where this is headed. Zak has been great through all of this, but ultimately he's not the one signing checks there.

I think Mototrax's positives to this point have been CAD design and marketing. Hard to argue that they didnt skip some fabrication and field testing before coming to market though. I think the failure of the plastic bushing in the Moto pivot is an obvious sign they didn't field test much. Most people after 3 rides were breaking that piece. Seems as though that component flaw would have been discovered early in R&D testing.

Yeah and what is curious to me was the "update" part they sent me to replace the plastic bushings that grenaded was a sleeve bushing made of aluminum. So, now I have an aluminum on aluminum bearing surface which is pretty bad design in my book. But the thing is, they have fancy frelon bearings that would serve this same purpose and actually work, so why are they making a piece of chit when they could just send out an actual upgraded bearing that's off the shelf part? Cost or ignorance is the only things I can think of. And the cost would be about 20$ for them probably. Anyway I'm gonna push that aluminum carp out and get my own frelon bushing in there. And if you guys at MT are reading this and don't know about frelon check it out!

Here's my ski next to my new yeti ski. Didn't notice any off centeredness except the center carbide did have a slight slant to it but it wasn't a drilling issue.

Take the same picture as the middle one without the runner and use a ruler in the picture. Ýou will find out that all the runners are offset to the left of the ski

With all 3 runners off center , the ski saddle flex (EVENTUALLY BENDING)ski flexing and the fork safe fit kit off center and trail not correct because of the fit kit(they have limited fit kit parts and send what ever hoping no one catches on)
YES

YES

I looked at my ski today and I don't see any offset of carbide that's going to cause any problems. Yes there saddle is flimsy but no need to recall a ski. I did see they made a billet saddle which will fix that problem but personally I just use the yeti ski with great success

Why did you buy a Yeti ski ?

Mototraxs Production track

This track system was never tested in the snow or dirt.
The ski is just one example.
Zak bent his ski saddle on his first ride.
Randy riveted a steel plate to his
THEY KNEW THEY HAD A PROBLEM and still sent flawed tracks to people.
Yes they have a billet saddle $150. It should be a free replacement for the flawed one.

I just got my kit today looked at the ski. It looks fine to me.

The left carbide is very slightly crooked at an angle. but they seem centered.

Spend as little time on trail as possible anyway so not to worried about it regardless.

It is blatantly not true that he kit was not tested in snow. While I do realize we have a video testing in the dirt over the summer most of the riding was done last winter, in snow.

Are you talking about Zaks first ride in 4" of snow on top of a rocky mountain where he ran into a huge rock, then smashed a stump and when over the bars into more rocks. Then I packed him to the ER to seal up his arm. Ya, we were pretty surprised that ONLY the ski saddle got damaged.

Brian it is quite obvious that you do not like MotoTrax but I don't get it. First you say we don't do any R & D or testing. But then you bring up constantly that we are doing R & D all the time and working to make the product better. You personally called me out for owning a machine dedicated to R & D and future improvements and said that even having the R & D unit was proof that are kits are messed up and don't work. This is all very contradictory is it not. Should KTM stop improving there product and doing R&D because that must mean that have product flaws.

As far as the ski goes you are blowing it out of proportion, in fact I could send you about 10 skis a various designs and from different brands the the carbide on the bottom does not perfectly line up to a thousandth of a degree of perfection.

Lastly, yes we do have a new billet ski saddle which has greatly improved performance and really works well with the ski and spindle. It was developed for our racer Darrin Mees and many expressed interest and therefor they are available for purchase.

AND YOU ARE CALLING ME A LIAR
Anyone that got the first tracks bushings broke and idler wheels misplaced. Did your testing not reveal this problem ? Seems to me that a lot of good people on these forums are doing the R&D for and you should Thank them.

I have been using yeti since last year. Wanted to try Moto trax one too.

Yes I am, the updated rear arm bushing was developed in the late spring and ran in the summer, it showed no signs of breakage, obviously now we know that to be because of the warmer temps.

The idler wheel location was fine with minimal vibration and was tested most of last season starting in January. Once we got custom tracks made by Camso with the outer drive lug removed for production they relocated the side clip to the inside which was supposed to be removed completely. That caused the damaging vibration issue that we fixed under warranty.

Rear idler break point

I've been listening to the talk about the mototrax ski that the carbides are not center don't worry about it because it doesn't matter the ski sucks.I've tried adding metal ect.waste of time I use the Yeti ski that I have made small changes to and love it.As for the rear idler bar that brakes I ordered a piece of tytaniam from tytaniam Joe and got the local machinest to build it right here's a pic.Ps this is on the 3"track that I built for my 2016 mototrax
