Moth Balls Octane Boost

I was just talking to a heavy duty mechanic buddy an he said thats what he was told in trade school. I asked him if he had ever tried it and he said he has only ran desiels ever since he started in the trade. The other point he was told was one moth ball in a tank boosted the octane to a certain point but two wouldn't boost it any more. Any one out there tried it? I know it is a big leap of faith after a turbo investment but I am intrested.

The old moth balls were made up of a chemical that could boost the octane rating. Not anything significant or worthwhile. I don't think the current ones have that chemical. And too many would have an adverse effect with producing too much carbon. There are alot better and safer ways to increase your octane. Simply way would be mix in some av gas, toluene, boost juice, methanol even Tel lead then fiddle with moth balls clogging everything up...

ran mothballs in my two stroke bike 35 years ago..told it would be good to run..the naptha i guess...but anyway caused lean burn downs..think the naptha has a much higher flash point then gas ..???

I think you will be fine. Im currently running 18lbs at sea level with 85 octane and moth balls. I was hoping no one else would discover the secret. No more $8 per gallon race gas. Its working good enough im thinking about bio diesel and double moth balls for next year.
