more steering play

I have a 2008 700 rmk took it out the other weekend had an awesome time pretty good powder not much trails. Took it out on sunday with the kids sleds to let them play and noticed a bunch of play on the turning meanig i could turn the handle bar about a half inch or more with out the skis turning. Also the snow was definatly icey and hard and i darted left to right alot until i got into some decent snow. Also everytime i hit a bump with the skis i can hear a jingle sound. Just curious what came loose nand whats the best way to get to it THANKS

How many miles do you have? Unfortunately the bushings around the spindles wear pretty good. You can stick a washer in there to clean it up. Another thing that I noticed On mine was that all the heim joints in the steering start to wear just a little bit adding up to some descent steering slop by the time it gets to the bars. One more thing which can be a bitch is the connection under the motor. Mine came a little loose. Was able to get a wrench on there to tighten it up some but couldnt get to the other side(i thing it was an allen) to hold it tight. The only other way I know is to yank the engine.

Check out 5 on the first pic and 6,7 on the second.

I already replaced the bushing cause I had the motor out for a broken mount. Check the the nut under the motor it WAS tight but who knows. Everything is tight from the skis when i turn the bars nothing moves. What is the best way to get to that jumble of steering components is it from underneith THANKS

Once the boots are removed as Pownar said... you have pretty darn good access to everything in there...

Also, check the tightness of the bolts that hold the lower steering post bearing/clamp in place.

If it was good one day and bad the next... sounds like something loosened up.
