Monster 2-stroke!

Great write up, very detailed and informative :thumb: But I will have to say that I love the KX450fi they are exellent bikes for snow and I picked my 09 KX450 for $3,900.00 and it had 50 hrs on it. Installed My Mountain Horse kit a KTM thermostat, some foam in the air box and got in 16 rides on it this winter and no problems.

If the CR500 doesn't live up to my expectations the KX 450 will be my next purchase. The only thing I don't like about the 450 race bikes is that they require more maintenance which adds up in cost really fast and the FI bikes like to fill the crankcase with gas if the engine isn't warm enough. Did your addition of a thermostat completely solve that problem?

The thermostat I added was a big improvement for bringing my engine temps up and causing the overfueling but it's not a cure all, the bike still overfuels and I change by oil every two rides and there is still gas in the oil. I think a two stroke or a four stroke bike would benifit from some sort of enginge sheild that keeps the snow of of the engine . I think we still have a little way to go on perfecting overfueling to carb icing to snow in the air box on both 2 and 4 strokes but with all the interest in snowbiking it's only going to get better with time. As to the Maico 700 I think you would have to have some vibration issues and not to mention I don't know if you could even get one in the US but it would be cool to see.

I was told a Bazzazz fuel controller would take care of the overfueling.

I have a couple riding buddies that run the Bazazz fuel controller and they say they get better fuel economy and more power but they to still end up with some fuel in there oil. From what I have heard and agree with is that the engine is still running rich in its mapping with all the snow hitting the engine and cooling off constantly, I really think the engine would benifit with some guard from snow hitting the engine constantly in powder days. Sorry for turning this thread into a four stroke engine thread but just replying in reguard to what I believe most FI bikes deal with to some degree. Has anyone got there two strokes to run perfect in most conditions ?
