Any recommendations on a good FFL dealer to ship hand guns to in the Idaho Falls area ?

Lots of options in IF. Ross's Coin and Gun, Max's Pawn shop, Sportsman's, Canellas is coming should be open by next year, the Gun Shop, Steel Gun and Pawn.
I like Ski's House of Guns but John has all bit retired. Only open a couple hours on WTF.

Diversified Metal Products in IF is a sister company to ours and has a water jet. They cut a bunch of stuff for me years ago and it turned out great.

In your experience you say that a laser is not accurate enoigh but WJ is? We have a new Mazak laser (in Boise) and our tolerances are in the .004 range an have dialed them in on some parts to .002 - .001.

just come spend a few days here check things out Ill help ya get around ect..

Slash has a good point. I spent 36 years in Anchorage, Eagle River, Big Lake, Wasilla, my father still has a cabin on the Deshka. Idaho will be a big change from Willow. We have been in McCall/Donnelly for 4 years almost, thinking of moving further East. Too many people here during the summer, weekends like this (4th) are just miserable when you can't even get into the gas station to get a beer or gas with all the idiots here acting like they own the place.
The heat here is miserable for me also, that will be a shocker over Willow. Winter is NICE though, temp wise. As I recall we get MAYBE two weeks total of below zero a year, and that is barely below zero, none of that 20-30 below Willow stuff. I rarely wear anything but a hoodie in the winter, temps average right at freezing, we don't own studs for any of our rigs, I actually ran a set of basically bald Toyo 305/40-22 street tires on my supercharged F150 4x4 last year, not one problem. The roads are usually melted down to pavement. I rode about 2500 miles last year, all in thin moto type gloves. (And haven't put duct tape on my face since I left Alaska, lol.)
I think that the McCall area is a bit like Big Lake but on a much larger scale: 50% people that have so much money they don't know what to do with it, 40%don't have a pot to piss in, and 10% middle class. But unlike Big Lake, crime is almost non-existant as far as theft and such, at least so far for us. We don't lock our cars, leave the keys on the seat, and we don't even know where the keys to our house are, lol.
Again, this is McCall area, can't vouch for East Idaho, only been through there once.
Hope that helps, good luck with the move, it is a rough one.
Chris

Thanks for the heads up Chris. Looking at a couple of property's in Island Park. Seems to resemble the Willow area, and the climate will be hard to beat. Big Lake.... Yeah, some things never change. I've lived here on and off for 40+ years, and the thieving in Big Lake seems to be a full time occupation for many. I have a nice set of M&S's I was gonna de-stud for the pull down. Didn't want to pull them if they'd be useful down there. I've made the trip several times. Alcan's come a long ways since my first haul in 79. Around 80 degrees here the past 3 day's... major heat wave

Mid 90's here for the last week, pretty miserable. I would pull the studs, maybe it is different further east, but here hey put some stuff on the roads that kills the ice AND the bottoms of trucks. My F350 went from black to rust in 3 months this winter, and I know a guy with a really nice lifted newer Ford dually who's truck did the same thing.
I moved down in stages, shipped everything or brought it with on planes, I was traveling back and forth a lot anyway.

apparently im not a BA like chris :) but i put studs on my truck. i pull up from boise and really like having them on. we also go over to the trinities and the roads there are pretty sketchy compared to mccall area. and i pull a good sized trailer that pushes the truck around a bit when its slick

We run studs in the winter on our Suburban.
The truck is glued to the road while everyone else slips and slides

Lol. That's true and something to consider also: My winter driving consists of daily 4 miles trips to the post office, couple times a week to McCall for the UPS run, and a max of 10 miles trailering to ride whenever I go. If I did the canyon much and didn't have the luxury of waiting until the roads cleared, studs may be nice. But then again, my wife has never had them either (except me) and we both grew up in Alaska, lol. Plus, I can't stud my tires......;)

Thanks, I have some 43" military tires on the way for it, lol. Still have the X, it has been for sale for months but nobody has money around here it seems. May just throw it in storage for a while.

"Chris is a BA" lol could of called you worse... I'll keep the studs. Found a used set of M&S's that'll make 3000 miles. Starting to look forward to the move. Wettest summer here in probably eight years, 50's and rain pretty much every day.

You know, that IS one of the things I hated up there growing up, the rain. Down here is dumps or thundershowers, gets it done with and is over with. Endless drizzle for weeks is depressing.
One other thought, everything is cheaper here, more than enough to offset the sales tax. (Here being Idaho, in the cities.) McCall is way more expensive than Alaska, but we just plan ahead and order anything we need online, and it is here in two days. Shipping your braces will be much cheaper and quicker also.
Based on my 36 year residency in Ak, I can say this: Alaska is not what it used to be, and does not match up to the hype. (NO offense to anyone, and I am referring to the general southcentral area, not the commercialized SW, S, and SE that you see on tv all the time.) The riding here is better, the snow is better, and there is much more wildlife. I got my deer 100 yards from my house last year with my bow, we have had foxes in our kitchen eating out of my hand, a coyote crossed the road in the neighborhood last night when we came home, there is local fishing everywhere, there is the wolf problem that AK has, we have an osprey nest across the road that is irritating but kinda cool, I shoot stupid chickens in the woods across from my house, etc.
Heh, 90's again yesterday so we took the kids to the beach at Cascade lake, sat in the sand and drank beer. (Me, not the kids.) :) A guy drove down with his boat at about 8:00, had it launched and was in the lake fishing in 10 minutes. No lines, no crazy fees, no Susitna Landing mess. This is 5 minutes from my house.
You will like it here, especially if you are closer to a larger city than we are, biggest problem we have is that Walmart is two hours away.

Hey, do you know Dick and Twila P. in Willow?

Cant say that I do... Know what you mean about the endless drizzles here, but this year it's been hard rains and lot's of them. Probably over six inches in the last four weeks. The grounds saturated and is causing some of the bigger Cottonwood trees to fall. Hopefully one wont land on my house before Thursday :face-icon-small-sho

Wow. We have had basically none in the last 2 months, grass is nice and dead. :) Lightning strikes last night, wouldn't be surprised if the fires are started. I miss winter......lol.

Well I made into Idaho Falls late on Saturday, great little (sort of little) town. Got all my belongings put in storage, and just got a house under contract today in Island Park. Looking to close around the 11th. Pretty stoked Island Park's kind of similar to my home in the Su Valley but the trees are bushier and there's definitely more wildlife.....
