Mid Layer options under Klim Valdez Jacket and Freerider Bibs?

I purchased a Klim Valdez Jacket and Free Rider Pants (because no one had any Extreme bibs) last spring.

I have some decent long underwear (but how is the Klim inner layer stuff?) so I think I'm ok there but, what the best option for a mid weight layer?

I saw the Inversion and Everest line today and I like the look of the Everest much better but, the dealer said I'd be happier wearing the thinner Inversion top and bottom under the shell of the Klim Valdez.

Whta other option have you tried?

What does your experience say is the right thing to do?

I wear fleece pants with a tech fleece on top. Works great. Probably very similar to the Klim mids, but I've never seem them in person. I've got the Valdez and Freeride pants as well. You'll love em.

Are the Klim layers designed specifically to work together as a integrated package (I'm sure they tell you it is) or will any breathable fleece product work just fine under the shell type jacket and pants?

I would just assume that the cooler it is outside, the thicker you'd want your mid layer clothes to be. Dah, right?

I'm sure any fleece would work just fine. The Klim Everest fleece is heavier than you would find from like a fleece liner in a Columbia jacket.

I ride in utah and even in the dead of winter i only wear my underarmour HEATgear pants under my klim freerides. if you are worried about being too cold, underarmour has three layers of cold gear as well. the heat gear keeps the sweat off me so i stay dry and the klim freerides pants keep me warm. perfect combo for dead of winter and for spring time. for the top half, all depends on the conditions. for very cold days, i wear underarmour heat gear long sleeve to keep the sweat off me, my inversion jacket (awesome because the sleeves come off), klim tekvest and capped off with my valdez. when the weather is a touch warmer, will either ditch my inversion and just wear my valdez over my tekvest or keep the inversion and tekvest and swap my valdez for my klim stow away. for spring time up top, i just use the underarmour, tekvest and the stow away.

I have had many brands over the years and i love klim BUT as far as base layer stuff, underarmour is the very best.

i found the klim fleece to fit VERY poorly as well. The inversion jacket is awesome at keeping the wind out and keeping you warm.

Hope is helps.

with the right base layer, you do not need to worry about how "thick" the mid layer is. i would highly highly highly suggest looking at the UA line of products. they have base layer and mid layer stuff that is amazing and even a few garmets that are in between. i love my klim outerwear, but UA started the base layer technology and they still dominate it.

Layers of fleece work for me. Start out the day Cabelas MTP Tech Silk-Weight underwear, Klim Inferno shirt, Klim Inversion or Mountain Hardwear wind stopper jacket, then Klim Valdez jacket. All the jackets have zippered vents or can be removed as the temps rise. If you're looking to save a few bucks, Cabelas has tons of lightweight fleece shirts and jackets. The Polartec Classic 200 sweatshirts are awesome!

I think either one will work very well. the inferno is lighter and I think wicks a little better. I think it depends on the temperature. I have some discounts on both of these if you are looking.
