ok so you all know about my snapped crank on the 06 I normally ride.

I have purchased and will pick up an 05 900 166 with a brand new engine W/ indy specialty torquemaster bottome end . all stock suspension

My question is what would you do ! my 06 is pimped but for the engine. the 05 has killer engine but is lacking in suspension which IMO makes the 900 and of course the 06 is a lighter sled I know the 05 engine will drop right in the 06 chasis and I figure the wiring harness would need changed but what eles is there . to the swap ?

or do you think i should just switch suspension /seat etc to the 05

Either plan I could do in a weekend I think

What say you MASTERS of the 900!:D

06 has a better clutch set-up. easier on belts and supposed to be easier to turn because of lower jack shaft. Swap the engine into your 06 chassis, and then turbo it over the summer.

putting the o5 in your o6 is relatively simple. you will have to transfer the wire harnesses with it other than that it should be a drop in. i think mine rides and handles better as an 06 chassis.

so i would just put the 05 motor in the 06. the 06 has a bit more power but don't think you will notice most of the time.

you might beable to just transfer the ecu harnesses and not have to do the main harness. but to be safe i would just transfer them all not too big of a job.

I was just looking and a new harness is $ 167.00 It would seem silly to mess with it for that kind of $$ Id just buy a new harness.

that is just the main harness, then there are 2 ecu harnesses and they are all the same price. just fyi

still seems like a good idea to just put new in and eliminate problems with worn/ wearing components that have a history anyhow. the wiring on this sled is a mess anyway and needs work .

i was in the same boat with my 900s...

if i had a choice which one to turbo, it would be the 05 engine, but my 06 is sicker looking, lol.

you could order a new main harness if you wanted...and swap the injector harness from the ECU over and be done with the wiring swap.

if i had the money, i would sell my 06 motor, buy an 05 bottom end with 06 cylinders...and TM1 crank.

Indydan said he likes the 05 motor better, and uses the 06 cylinders with it cause they have much better porting, he machines a plug and plugs the injector holes on the 06 cylinders.

so, i pretty much just rambled and didnt answer anything for you. lol.

interesting . I have plans to conatct dan anyway I will add that to the list of topics.

If it were me, I would convert the 05 motor into your 06. I've ridden many 05's and none compare IMO to an 06. Must have been a reason for it as Polaris ran that set-up til 2010 and 2011 600's.

06 cyls will require a piggyback fuel controller if you are using them with 05 setup.

IMO..you would risk a burn down.

I Really like the lower fuel pressure of the 2005 as well.

couldn't you just swap the fuel tank?

you could just swap the pump..

lots of good inputs here...its all about whats easiest and best for you..

its hard to say personally, since i have yet to ride my 06...but i liked what indydan said about the 05 bottom end and 06 cylinders...i said if i got to that point or ever did, it i would get more info on it...so im not much help.

but whatever you decide...tell us what you did, and why?

Im curious ! i may just swap suspension and see how much different the 05 is or is it just set up. Definetly something to consider before putting any money into it . a quick engine swap sounds a bit dicey for this point in the season.to many variables. I can change all the suspension without worries or hurries too. I just want to ride!!

Install that suspension, and book a room in Revelstoke. Sean wont make it the weekend without your parts support!

sounds like a plan, you can always swap it back over the summer and build your 06.

yep! unless the 05 is a real turd :face-icon-small-sho

i will probably try to get a set of 06 cases fron indy specialty. rob the crank from this bottom end in the spring . and depending how well the 05 feels i will put the crank update kit in that. or part out /sell the roller.

I would kind of like to keep it . When you can make all your parts from vents to billet suspensions building a sled gets a lot cheaper.:face-icon-small-coo
2k into another engine of some sort and bam x2 sweet mod sleds
