Methow

My wife and I are looking to take a short vacation DEC 13th-18th and I was thinking somewhere in the methow valley. We would like to bring the sleds and do some snowshoeing as well. Can anyone recommend a place to stay (Somewhat secluded/ cabin like) and where some good trails to ride and hike might be. How is the snow over there right now?

I was at our cabin Saturday which is a mile out of Winthrop about 10" on the ground. Sweetgrasss butte has 40" plus harts pass has about 60". Goat creek or Yellowjacket snow park would be good for sledding out of Mazama. Here's a link with a lot of info about the area.

Check out the club for a club ride too: http://www.methow.com/groomer/mvsa.htm

Great group of folks. Just introduce yourself and let them know if you want a more adventerous ride and they'll hook you up with the right folks. Typically there are road riders and those who use roads to get to the good stuff only and will show you stuff you'll never find on your own. The areas are so big and awesome that local knowledge is key.

Looks like the Whiteface ride is around when you're there - you'll enjoy the play spots on this one and potential peak bagging.

This page also has links to .pdf maps to help you explore the groomed areas. Just check the page for the grooming dates and follow the groomer:

Go to methow river lodge and cabins, brand new hotel and cabins right there in Winthrop, ask for Rich and tell him Jason from Wenatchee sent you, he will take care of you. As for riding just head up to yellowjacket and there is tons of awesome riding up around that area.

info on new areas to ride

what is the recomended snow park in the methow vally that will lead to open meadows something for the kids to play in that isn't too technical. i usually ride blewitt pass but the snow conditions are keeping the groomer from running. any other locations would be appreciated for the family to ride.

If you are looking for meadows, either go out of 8 mile snowpark toward sweetgrass or out of boulder creek snowpark and head for parachute meadows and tiffany lake.
