Meth injection

Anyone using or messed with the idea of meth injection to a boosted apex.
Im thinking just some at wot to help keep 91 oct fuel boost friendly.
Could you run higher boost?
Obviiously more power with cooler charge.

I run Meth on my Nytro. Easy to install. I run 3 100ml nozzles. I also run the adjustable control box. It allows me to start the meth coming on at 14 lbs and full spray by 22lbs. You can set the start and finish to what ever numbers you want. It is a straight line up to the top number. This makes it infinetly adjustable. I also run the bottle sensor so I know when I am down to 1/4 bottle. I run another light on my instrument panel that goes green when the injection is on. Pretty slick stuff. This allows me to run up to 22lbs on pump fuel. PM me if you have any questions. Placement of the bottle and orientation and placement of the nozzles is the key to an effective kit.

i ran a 2 stage meth kit on my apex last year,worked well for me. i didnt notice any increase in power due to a cooler charge alone, however once i cranked the boost up she obviously pulled a little harder!! I would advise to use a little bit of race fuel as well as meth depending how much boost u wanna run...i ran 20+ and i was mixing my fuel 50/50 c-12+premium, never had any failiures..over all i would say its worth it to run meth, its just nice to have peace of mind.:beer;

Meth injection works great. I would not use the meth for added power, however as stated above you can run higher boost with lower octane ratings and stay detonation free. A properly set up system works great and as long as you know that it is working you will be fine.

I have done the kits on Nytros primarily, but can help you out if you need something. PM me if you have questions.

The green LED will only tell you that the pump is running, doesn't mean the solution is actually getting into the cylinder  Found it out the hard way, 2 of my nozzles were bad and they didn't know why but took the kit back. Also, the pump will gravity feed, so make sure it can't siphon the tank. Luckily I got away with a set of pistons and a head gasket as I realized there was a problem as my knock box was looking like a Christmas tree. Dave at Hurricane says there is now a flow sensor available so it might be a good idea to run one. Maybe I just had bad luck, one of the nozzles sprayed perfectly, LOL. My knock box doesn't light up at 17psi on avgas and that's more than enough for this old guy, LOL. I would try it again but would be a lot more diligent. I learnt a lot in that short period but lost a fair bit of riding time, not to mention the cost of a motor teardown and parts. Good luck.

You can by a selenoid that will shut the boost down when flow is not sensed. It is about $200 I believe but probably worth it. I simply hooked to a 12v source after I tapped the nozzles into my intercooler and whatched them spray, that way I know they worked. That is also why I run 3 nozzles and not just one. Just in case on takes a crap. Good point though for sure, you can never be to safe at 22 lbs.:D

Meth

Thanks,
Sounds like the hurricane guy is the one to get ahold of to get a ready to use kit?

yeah, I did a LOT of reading on TY when i was thinkin about meth, they are super helpful, easy to get ahold of and very straigh forward to talk with.

and seen a hurricane dyno run of a shimmed RX1 motor iwth arp studs pushin just over 300hp on 87 and wiper fluid... pretty impressive stuff.

Dave at Hurricane will tell you everything you need to know. Just remember they are radar running guys and don't do the same low speed full throttle runs that the Mtn sleds do. Alpine should also be able to get you set up and they do Mtn stuff. I just wanted mine back to the reliability level I liked at 17lbs with low comp. I was at 15lbs with stock comp and 3 nozzles when the meth failed and detonated and have to admit it sure was snappy with the higher comp. I had also had a previous problem with siphoning so you might want to get a shut-off solenoid if your tank is up high. I was going to run higher boost and use the water/meth for deto control but didn't want to give up the trouble free setup that I have.

Siphoning

Sly can you elaborate on the siphoning?
It sounds like to make it as trouble free as possible the basic kit isnt enough.
Need something to watch flow and shut down if possible.
Need something to protect from siphoning.
Need something to show when it is working.
anyone make complete kit with all this and any pictures of installs?

Installed the meth kit from alpine on mine last year. Had to get a little smaller tank for the meth to fit up in the nose of my tapex. Works well, I have mine come on at 7-8Lbs of boost and max spray at 12Lbs. Green lit comes when working and haven't had any problems yet. Like the guys said I use it for no detonation issues and run pump gas. All in all it will just keep the ol tapex a little cooler.

i beleive sly, the newer kits come with a check valve so it cant siphon the system... or maybe im thinkin of somethin backwards, but a check valve inline from the tank to pump would fix that yes?

and hurricane how has a flow meter inline between the pump and the jets, so if the flow suddenly drops off, it can either be wired to a electic wastegate solenoid to lower boost, or just light a warning light.

No extra power so thinking back now wish I would have spent the money on nos or a cam or bigger turbo mabye.I run av gas and my turbo's only good for 18psi anyways.

Shim

Are you running a head shim? If so, why you need meth at such low boost #'s? A friend is boosting an Apex this year and planning to run 91 with a bit of av gas and 10-12lbs and is not planning to baby it out here at 2'000. It will have a shim though. Just currious!!

I had been told that the pump had a check valve and would not allow the water/meth to run through until it was activated but that was not the case, so I got a shut off solenoid. My tank was mounted where the rad used to live on the Nytro. Mine was set to start spraying at 7lbs and keep increasing up to about 20-22lbs. The green LED was coming on to tell me that it was working OK but the knock box was also lighting up like crazy as the boost came on. I found 2 of the nozzles were not working properly, I took them apart and examined them with a magnifying glass and could not find a problem. I sent them back and they checked them and had the same results. I decided it just wasn't worth another rebuild. I had already been running 17psi on av on my previous sled with no issues at all, so went back to that and enjoyed the rest of the season. My pistons were toast so I ended up putting in JE LC's with a stock gasket. Dave at Hurricane was pretty helpful and gave me a good deal on pistons after they got toasted but it comes down to how ragged of an edge you want to run, I want to gas and go every weekend and not be messing with my sled all the time. Planning to run the same this year, I don't think the Mitsu turbos are efficient beyond about 20psi anyway and besides, 17 is a fun ride and more than enough for everything I need. There are lot's of guys running meth it seems, I just couldn't rely on it after what happened. It never ends, LOL

I am running hurricanes meth on my rx-1 racer. It has been tested at 16 pounds boost on 91 fuel at 800' elevation. Didn,t have the balls to go higher but it was fine. Just using -40 windshield washer fluid so there is really no corrosive after affects & Dave is a big help getting it dialed in. I had brothers performance in winnipeg set it up & they did a great install.
