Meth in the Mountains

How many of you guys run methanol injection in the hills? Hows your consumption rate per tank of fuel? Any do's and dont's from the been there crowd? Whats boost is safe on a 91octane no shim 4cyl Yam?
 
I run it. I will use about a 3/4 to gallon of 50/50 methanol/water mix on a hard day riding. It all depends on what boost level you have the kit set to come on at. My meth kicks in at 12 lbs and is at max flow by 20 lbs. On an Impulse kit with the standalone you can run 91 octane with meth and a compression ratio of around 8.5 to 9.5 up to 20 lbs and never have to worry. Get a kit like the Snow Performance kit that comes with a level indicator and an LED that lights up when your spraying. You can spend the extra money and get a controller that monitors flow rate and will send a signal to a selenoid to reduce boost in the event no spray is detected. Their kit comes with very large plastic tank, I took the parts of of it and made my own smaller stainless steel tank that I mounted up high by the intercooler. DONT USE ALUMINUM to make a tank, it degrades with the meth mixture in it. I run my kit power through a relay that is triggered through the ignition. If you can find straight methanol to mix 50/50 with water that is the ideal fluid, I would stay away from windshield fluid mixture (to many unknowns). You can also buy "HEET" in the yellow bottle, it is 99% pure methanol (I called the company to find out) and mix it 50/50 with water (preferably distilled).

I installed the snow kit on my tapex.Will be test tuning this weekend. You can buy a drum of straight methanol from lordco
 
I have the snow kit on my evo and was also considering running it on my impulse apex. On the car I can run 30 psi on 91 octane with zero knock. I have not dynoed the car but if feels like it makes more power on 91 and methanol then it does on race gas. Im a diesel mechanic so i may be wrong but I think the higher octane fuels burn slower and is why it is less likely to detonate. but with 91 and methanol you have the best of both worlds with no knock. I run the snow stage 2 kit with a controller that monitors flow and cuts my boost automatically if there is no methanol flow. Its pretty easy for me to mix 50/50 111 and 91 and go ride the damn thing and have a good time, I'm just worried that the methanol will be more hassle than its worth. I have never weighed the pump, controller and the tank with methanol/water I would be curious to see how much it all weighs. Im used to running 1/3 of a gallon per minute on the compound turbo dmax's we build :)
