Melted quickdrive belt.

I have a 2013 pro rmk 155 800. Its has 1200 miles in it.

While driving under WOT I was hearing a sound of what sounded like the battery holder fibrating (High pitched rattle).

Also another problem was hitting det any time over full throttle but that was at the end of the day, but I believe that is another issue. (One plug was very dirty on top where the cap would plug on.

Back on track with the belt. Still hearing that rattle noise I couldnt really pinpoint it. Then it felt like the track was rubbing. Couldn't see anything wrong.
By the end of the day after getting back from the woods I opened everything up and noticed the belt drive was melted.

A little more history. I just put this new 2013 belt on it 50 miles prior to the meltdown. A handfull of drive cogs where stripped off.

Another piece of history the drive shaft was replaced under warrenty because the drivers slid over to one side and the bearing on one side (cant remember which but can find out was wrecked)

I attached a picture doing all this from my phone. I hope it works. The belt in the picture you can see where it melted. Another spot is where the bottome belly of the snowmobile must have pushed up and put a big indent in the hot belt. Must have parked on some snow that pushed up on the belly of the snowmobile.

I brought it to the dealer and they could not find out what happend. Maybe the brakes were dragging. I can say that i do not hold my finger on the brake while driving.

My buddy had the same thing happen, his brake disk was getting smoking hot. Wore out half the pads and melted the belt. Dealer gave a new one no guestions asked.

Appears as though the brake was dragging for whatever reason. Maybe the disk wasnt floating like it should have been, maybe the caliper wasnt releasing, in any case it looks to be a brake issue.

Looks to me like you answered your own question....

The QD belt requires a 100 mile break in period. Break in does not include WOT.

QD belts do not like sustained high speed, especially the '13 version. Properly broken in though, they see to last pretty well. My first one went at 150 miles (not carefully broken in), the second is over 900 miles now (properly broken in).

Check your jackshaft bearing. Somethings going on, its probably not coincidence you had one fail and now the new one is going to.

My first belt lasted 1100 miles or so. Wide open throttle shouldnt make the belt melt.

The rattle comment was being heard well before the new belt.

Thank you for the replys. The dealer said they were going to order a break rotor under warrenty as far as I know. I hope they did a little further this time other than taking the side panel of and wiggling some stuff.

Quick update...the dealer put in a warrenty rewuest for a new rotor.

I would really like to know what caused the problem.
