E,
All good questions and I can find out the answers, I just have to go through all the reciepts. This was an off body rebuild and I have over 30,000.00 in reciepts for it that describe everything.
I am just guessing on the lifters, no I don't hear them. Yes it has a very lumpy cam, idles like whoop, whoop, whoop. Hijacker headers, edelbrock manifold (have to look on carb but I notice it doesn't seem to kick in the other 2 barrels when you floor it, like it is already running on all 4) It has Axell (sp) wiring, and I will have to check on the other.
have owned alot of hot bigblocks...depending on compression and cam profiles there is several things you can do...40 degrees is not to much for a well built bigblock..but is to much for low octane fuel...regardless of ignition(hei or points) having it recurved so all timing is in by 3000 rpm helps performance, as well as having a vacuem advance for fuel economy..water injection will help alot with the ping...but won't stop it if compression is high...one thing that helps on ping is open the overlap on the camshaft..but that will move the power up in the powerband...and will hurt low rpm power...if it has closed chamber heads you could swap for opens(drops compression)but I wouldn't...if it only pings in high gear you can add a retard box to back the timing down in high gear..msd makes a great one...
