MDS weight review

Well, I ran my new Pro RMK out in Cooke City the last few days and went straight to the MDS weights. Although I never ran it with the stockers, I can say without a doubt that these weights worked great. Bottom end power was incredible and it was there whenever I needed it. Steve is great to work with and always took the time to make sure I was clear on instructions. He was also spot on with his setup for the elevation we discussed.

To summerize, I highly recommend these weights. I don't think there is a better bang for your buck out there.

I have been thinking of getting these weights and was wondering if you had a chance to compare to another Pro at all??

We had another Pro 163 (rental) in the group on Monday. Mine is a 155 and we never switched sleds that day. However, we did switch sleds the next day when the same guy rented a M800. Both of us said compared to my Pro with the MDS weights the M800 felt like a dog on the bottom end. He also commented that mine did feel a little stronger on the bottom than the RMK he rented the day before.

Sorry I can't give more of a comparison, but I don't think you'll be disappointed if you buy these weights, and if you are you get your money back.

Working with Steve on these weights. I have a 13.6 head and HPS can. Riding 8 on up. Yesterday I got it in some good snow and down the road it was tacking 8300-8350 but when I got in some powder I wouldn't pull very well. If I started out in the powder straight into a hard turn or something that would have a good load it would only pull about 7300. If I could run at a pow hill I would pull 8 ish but the rpms were all over the place. Have stock sec on it right now. My thoughts are to steep of angle on the bottom. Any thoughts?

I think you are thinking along the right lines. I am running a 60/40.36 helix in mine. Tach doesn't move. Pin it, and it stays put where ever It falls for the weights I'm running. Now, I'm at sealevel and not 8k' But I'm running 71g mtx's with 2g's in the center, 2'gs in the tips. Slp blue'pink primary spring the above helix with a stock spring. Still need to add a touch more weight to it. Pulliing about 8200 like that from 0-2500'. I am also running a 163 and weight about 250 in street clothes.

Thanks a lot. I really think these weights are going to be cool. The on off throttle response is awesome, I just need to get the sec. Figured out.

These pro motors really pull hard and fast down low on the rpm so any of the heavy heel weights regardless of brand, really make these sleds pull harder. Most everyone in our neck of the woods runs the slp mtx weights. A few with belly busters. Both work well. Most harder pull over stock even a stock motor.

over 8000 ft I would be around 58/38/.36....under that I would want something around a 60/40/.36..I think 42 finish is barely tolerable down here at sealevel with a stock pro..and I still think a 40 finish would be better....I also wouldnt run the black purple sec spring if I could make the stock spring work ..just think the stock spring makes less heat if dialed right...right now I have mine pulling a stock secondary with 2 delrins, slp blue/pink and mtx 68 gram weights(2 grams belly, 1 gram tip) running 8300 on the memory at sealevel and holding 7900 at 5000 ft. with no changes...pretty good for covering 5000 ft of elevation...

what did you do for screws? drilled button in tip 100/340 spring?

i am in cook now and i cant get 8100, i get 8400 with steves recommendations at 1600 ft....

Drilled screw in tip, stock springs in both clutches. Don't know if the clutching is different in the 13-14 with the belt drive but mine is a 12. If that isn't working I would call Steve.

What RPM are you pulling?

How's the snow?

Im jacked on mine!! Just got first ride yesterday (MN) and the low end grab is amazing. More snort, but also easier to "feather" through the tight spots
