MCX Apex turbo, anyone run one without the muffler?

Sitting around tonight bored out of my tree so i went out to the shop and pulled the muffler/pipe off of the turbo. Fired it up and went for a tear across the yard and the thing sounded like it wanted to kill something. Wondering if I can chop out the muffler and just run a straight pipe off the turbo? Does the system need backpressure to respond like it should? I know boondocker and alpine run em straight pipe and not sure why MCX runs a muffler. Thanks for any input. MJ

When you say muffler do you mean the little tailpipe coming of the turbo or do you have an actual MCX muffler. Post a pic. I run just the little tailpipe no actual muffler. Not quite sure what your getting at unless it is that big muffler MCX made to quiet the MCX down.

That and pi$$ing off everyone within a three mile radius,we have to be careful with our noisy machines, unless you want mandatory noise regulations imposed on you by Gov. ask the sledders back east how they like it.It's hard to run a turbo back there back because of the regulations.

No i dont have the big ugly muffler add on. It just has the tailpipe off the turbo that goes out the stock muffler cover. buddy's got a boondocker and that thing sounds like a damn tractor when he fires it up. This one actually sounds pretty wild without it on. Prob not gonna do it, I only was wondering if it was on there for performance, or just noise reduction.

It's just baffled for noise reduction, there's no restriction to it that add's performance.

I bet it sounds wicked. :D I bet it's also insanely loud. And if you choose to run it that way, I bet we get shut out of riding areas even faster :(

I used to run a stock pipe on my R1 so I could wheelie at tripple digits without announcing I was coming. My buddies that ran loud pipes all got busted. I never did. Went through 3 rear tires for every single front. Stealth is good.

Same applies to sleds, but we all get busted.......

If I pooped on your parade, sorry, but why bring down the heat on our sport?

It will work fine without a muffler, just noisy like everyone has mentioned. Research has actually shown the most power you can get with a given exhaust type on a turbo would actually be a bell mouth right at the turbo outlet. Not very practical though :D
