Lets see what everyone is using for their intake setups ? Any issues with ice build up or ice getting past the filter ? Find any ideas that worked better than others ?

This is what i have right now. Works pretty good

Much better than this

But the filter still can ice up. The new air filters are much better.

I have the expanded metal with the pre-charger filter over it...couple rides out works good......but heard through the grape vine that one turbo has got ice chucks in it at toasted it due to this type of filter......most likely bullshat......never seen it for myself.......Does the new MCX Nytro kit come with the same filter as mine? I guess if there working there should be no worries

I bought a big K&N filter and plumbed it outside the stock plastic. Works great, no complaints. It's about the size you see on the Alpine front mounts.

It ain't pretty but my filter would ice up immediatly until i snorkeled it up. I have no idea how all the guys on snowest run them the other way. May be the snow here in CO is so light and fluffy.

I had the same setup on my Apex as what the SledMods guy has in his 2nd picture and it worked a lot better than what comes from MCX for the new Nytro. The new Nytro filter is a POS imo and I am looking for improvement as it ices up and stops you getting full boost really quickly in the powder. The filter material is about as strong as the roll on my bathroom wall and it is next to impossible to clean out the ice and snow the way it is tucked underneath the cowl. Both my and my buddy's filters already have holes in them. Thinking of getting a big filter like the Alpine front mounts run on the Apex and mounting it out past the cowling, that way I can knock off the snow build up. Anyone know the part# of the big filter and cover? I think the filters work better than the metal inner screens as we are finding lots of ice build up on both Apex and Nytro inside the metal screens which could be a problem if a chunk goes through the impeller.

i can tell you for sure that the metal screen with a pre filter ices up in deep powder. You end up with ice on the inside of the screen that falls off and goes threw your turbo. I know this because the impeller on my turbo is chewed up, just like my buddies with the same filter set up. both of us lost rideing days last weekend due to this and have to have the impeller replace.
We are thinking an extra fine mesh screen is necesary infront of the turbo on big pow days. May cost some power but should save the turbo.. or does the k and n just ice up on the outside and need melted off now and then.. julio

What prefilter and screen are you guy running that lets the ice through? I have the cr racing setup. Will that do the same thing?

My son has the CR filter on his Apex and it iced up in the powder and yes there was ice inside (we used a hair dryer to melt it). Anyone know the # of the big K&N fliter and pre-filter. I think I will just plumb it out from under the seat so I can clean it off.

I think you need two k&N filters...keep one in the room dry and switch it out at the end of the day......maybe we could get Murray at MMod to make the seat into one big mf filter..lmao

???

does the k and n build ice on the inside of the filter? or just the outside.if it just builds ice on the outside I think I will get one for the big pow days. if you have the metal cage and a prefilter there is a chance of turbo damage from ice..everyone I have seen in deep powder ices up

Anybody got a part number of the K&N sock that fits over the nytro MCX filter?? I got a SN2620PK and its a tight fit....but in all the books I have seen its the biggest they offer??

Synergy

Didn't the Synergy guy (Mitch i think) have a huge K&N mounted behind his seat on his Apex turbo ? Maybe that is what it is going to take. The metal strainer with outerwear won't cut it on big powder days, ice gets past the pre filter material and into the strainer. It will come loose and take out your impeller. We need to come up with something slightly better !

I would like to know if the CR filter is made of true Outerwares material or is it a material similar to it. I think the Outerwares might be different. Anyone ?
