The botom line is if we refuse to use OUR resources (Coal, oil in ANWR & offshore) because of bunk science, we are tying a hand behind our back in competing in the world. Again, I'm not saying not to develop new energy tech, but I want the transition to be painless and done for the right reason. (Energy Independance)

Yup, being on the high fuel prices, it is the only way things will change. Energy independence? Seems like just more lip service like global warming. We are a market economy, you want change...... change the market! Best way to do that is to raise prices (tax). We are spoiled with low fuel costs and waste what we have away....

Kind of hard to help something that doesn't exist. Though a tax on all fossil fuels would indeed decrease pollution as it allows technologies that were more expensive to enter the market place and become competitive.

If there is one thing I have learned about governments and technology, is that governments (at least ours) is horrible at choosing future technologies. Therefore it must choose which ones it doesn't want around anymore, I guess it is negative reinforcement. At least this is the way with energy.

Ignoring us? There never was anyone around to begin with. You seeing stuff?

I just have to laugh at our government....my tax 1020 form asked if I drive a green vehicle and will give me a tax rebate for owning one, but on the same tax form, if I have several children I get 'X' amount of dollars for each kid as additional tax return. Not just that, but I'll get $600 for no kids on the Bush tax rebate, while others with multiple kids get 2-3 times as much. My state allows additional welfare to families with more kids.....more kids in a family-the more welfare you get...

Hmmmmm,...and we are trying to control global warming. Let's get to reality and control the human population from exponentially growing and you obviously control global warming and pollution as a result.

Don't you guys have jobs?

Gas taxes work better in countries where the average population density is 10X the United States. More efficient mass transit, and the whole country isn't more than a 5 hour drive. Won't work here, unless you give gas tax credits to everyone but big city people. Actually, that sounds like a good idea, could we just tax people from major cities of California?

There's only a couple of reasons why Senators vote the way they do. Voting the other way would be so unpopular, it would hurt their chances of getting elected. Voting the other way would cause major lobbyist and campaign donors to hold back funding. And, they might later have to explain why they voted the way they did, when it all blows up in their face.

Politicians know a scam when the see one, there professional scammers.
