May 9th - Stampede Pass to Meadow Pass

There is no snow at the snowpark at Crystal Springs. I found that there were 5 rigs parked up at the intersection at the turn off to Lost Lake.

I was up on the ridge overlooking stump lake, and 2 F16 fighters came over the ridge - supersonic dogfight practice. They were flying lower than where my sled is in the photo. Then they went really low down over the lake and one split up and went very close to the microwave tower near Baker Lake.

Was a very nice day, but there are some nasty snow bridges over near Meadow Pass. Some of them are not going to hold much longer.

The road that splits left or right, at the back of the powerlines is still impassible and I would suspect you couldn't get to Lester. On most of the sunnyside slopes, there are many natural avy's. In the large bowl (King Bowl?), there is a large chunk of cornice that broke loose and came crashing down. The piece that is down near the bottom of the hill is about 40 feet By 50 feet. I decided not to play on that hill today.

When I got back to the trailer, there was some guy holding about a dozen no parking signs. He came up to me and asked,"don't you know you can't park here?" He said you can't even drive up this far, this is all private parking and part of the firestation land. Luckily I had been out all day, but there were several people that were trying to unload. I don't know how you can get from Crystal Springs snopark to the snow, I guess you just have to take to the pavement for about 1/4 mile. Give us a break...

What's up with that?? Was the guy in uniform or a self professed problem maker?

Monty, you on here?? You have any info on this?

Seems like it would be forest service road......those private land owners have been a challenge all year it seems...trying to get the road plowed all the way to the fire house and now, telling us we can't park on forest service roadway?

It seems that the fire service guys have a special use permit to have access, as the road is off limits to wheeled vehicles. At least that is what the guy said. He is worried about not having access to the building.

They only plowed 1/2 of the road to allow sledders to travel down it. Probably best to unload near the parking...

Seattle tree huggers drive dump trucks? I hope you do the above, will be interesting to see what happens. It is a private land issue, people were parking on his land.......

I'm not certain it's private land...believe it's Forest Service roads...which as long as you're vehicle is licensed for highway use (which your tow vehicle and trailer would be) you're authorized to access these roads.

No doubt they need to ensure no residence, right of way, or fire station is blocked or impeded...but that doesn't by any stretch of the imagination mean 'no parking'.

You ought to see all the passenger vehicles on these roads in the summer...parked and all.

The land west of the access road, near the volunteer fire station and under the power lines may be private land, but I'm again not sure how any private party can own a parcell through which a major public utility service infrastructure passes...like those gigantic powerlines...

Seems bogus to me...in any regard...if the guy is correct than it needs to be posted...officially...

He stated there was a "no wheeled vehicle beyond this point" sign. I didn't see it on the way in, but that doesn't mean it wasn't there.

The signs are posted on the power line supports...that is where the x-country skier trail is...under the power lines. There are also "no snomobile" signs.

Our trail is the one that runs parallel to the power lines, but not under.

Didn't see anyone parking bad on Friday, or blocking the firestation. Most were either on the edge of the road, or in the turnaround.

There were quite a few rigs stuffed in there today and and it was littered with quite a few no parking signs as well . I didn't see anyone complaining today , I'm sure he was burnt out from all his complaining yesterday .....

specifically what signs...'X-country only' is true under the powerlines to the east of the access road, not to the west.

This is on the Iron Horse Trail only (old rail bed)

The powerlines don't run parallel to either trail image

that's the point, nobody was incorrectly parked to my knowledge...nor do I believe access is denied to 'wheeled vehicles' on that road ,...if I paint up a sign that says 'nobody but me can use this non-private land' it doesn't mean squat.

I've seen you and your signs ...no matter how sad or desperate you look I'm not going to give you money...BTW - using the dog for sympathy works against you...

Oops...my mistake...rail bed, not power lines.
