What is the max EGT reading everyone likes to see at full throttle ? Or other throttle positions ?

I have an 06 Rkt 827 13.6:1 head ported and boyessen reeds.

Thx

Kind of a loaded question. Depends a lot on where you place your probes. You should tune off plugs and wash. Then use temps to maintain. Mine runs around 1200 wide open. 1150 in mid. It will creep up a bit on along pull. have seen as high as 1275. Back when I ran a turbo I would see 1400 flash at me. With that placement. I took my egt's off. Got sick off watching them. I check plugs once a day. Never had a problem

Tune to plugs and wash because temps may vary depending on situation. Great advice , thank you very much .

Yes....depending on how far the probes are from the piston they may get different readings. Too close to the piston can show a cooler temp as raw fuel may get on the probe....a little farther out that fuel is not there. If that makes sense :face-icon-small-con
If accurate, 1150ish at full throttle is safe.

Great info where is everyone putting there probs I've seen 1 inch from face of flange and also seen 2 inches? Or 6 inches from centre of piston.?

I set my warning lights for 1150, let's me know it's time to start paying attention. With my Boony box I usually max out at around 1200 on top end. For me the mids are my concern, just cruising up the trail is when she wants to cook a slug. I've kept this RT in one piece for three seasons, works for me..... Knock on wood

EGT

From examining many melted engines for an aftermarket lubrication company what I saw was this: 1150 was real safe and had margin for poor fuel, 1250 was the highest to go if you were going to be real careful using quality fuel and good oil, 1300 (and higher) was the recipe (along with increased compression, lean jetting, advanced ignition timing, poor fuel and oil) for buying lots of parts and blaming failure on something other than a variable you had control of!

Agree with the folks above who say tune from the plugs. Tuners who use EGT only were more likely to have failures in the sample size I saw firsthand. Because of emissions controls many stock engines are very close to being to lean with the factory spec.
