Max boost on 100LL?

I have been reading through the threads and I am currious about the max boost pressure I could run on an M8 running straight 100LL fuel. Its not too much more than premium so what the hell eh. I figure if I want a high performance mod then I should run a higher performance fuel. I ride between 1200 and 6000 feet mainly, I'm out in the Shuswap/Revy area.

Also the more I read the more I am curious about something. Do the race gas turbo kits simply just give you more room to play with? For example, if I wanted to, could I run the race gas kit as a pump gas kit? Or is this going to be hard on the race turbo set up? I am curriuos because if I can just run 100LL and lower boost numbers for the majority of the time and then splurge for the race gas and get silly when I want then this would be the kit for me.

One more thing, does the bigger intercooler on the race gas setups affect lag greatly or not much more than the pump gas set up?

Thanks

I don't know about 100LL at your elevation. At around 10,000 feet its good to at least 12 lbs on the M8. You can turn down the boost on a RG kit to run pump gas. As far as innercoolers go, I think that Boondocker quit using the big innercooler on the RG Kits and now sells an optional Mini cooler, that is 30% bigger than last years mini cooler but not as big as the old innercooler. You can also skip the innercooler all together and just get the 4 injector airbox from them. We have setup 2 identical sleds, one with the RG upgrade and no innercooler and one with the RG setup and "new" minicooler to see if the intercooler is worth it. This weekend will be the first time the two sleds are out together since the changes were made so we should get an idea of charge temp difference and any other potential pluses or minuses. Early testing of the innercooler has shown about 105-110 degree charge temps, down from about 180-190 at 10 lbs. Time will tell if it continues to work and is worth the extra $$$.

I have a M8 with a 2860 turbo that I built myself last fall. This is how it is set up and it works good for me.
PL fuel controller.
12 lbs. of boost on stock injectors.
I run 50/50 av gas. (running a bit of pump gas saves your A/F censer)
1 to 1 fuel regulator set at 42 to 44 psi fuel pressure.
I am running a larger air box comparible to a intercooler and my throttle response is still pretty good with not much lag.
I am sure I would need secondary injectors with more boost but I don't want more power.. it's enough for me. I have no idea how much hp it's putting out and I don't care. All I know is at the end of a day of riding my arms are way longer.

Hey arcticdoo we are practicaly neighbors LOL!! I'm out in Blind Bay so that is perfect knowing these numbers and fuel blend for this area. Thanks alot.

as ArticDoo say's mix the av gas if you can, running straight 100LL can lead foul your plugs fairly quickly, and in some cases leave a nice build up on your pistons, i used to run the stuff straight through my big blocks, and have been scared to to run it on my turbo'd tripple because of that reason:face-icon-small-ton just my experiences, but if your sled ArticDoo runs fine i may give it a shot mixing and turning the boost down....

while on this topic has anyone ever run an octane booster called torco accelerator??? any good?? they claim with 92 octane and 10 galons will boost octane to 102??

cheers

Wow this thread is an oldie:)

I've been running my sled at 50/50 av @ 9 psi boost and the sled rips and runs great! Riding at about 7000 feet out here. How's the sled running a 12 psi arcticdoo? Should hook up for a ride one of these days.

I was playing with different fuel blends and I did notice that 50/50 av will build more boost than straight av. I adjust my boost controller accordingly of course and off I go. Has anyone else noticed this?

Yup i have noticed the same. Pump gas helps pre ignite the av gas... I was running close to 50/50 the other day at 10 pounds 6-8000 ft and no det. A little pump gas helps bottom end for sure.
