Going to Maui for a week starting Monday...Anyone have any must do's???

Yeah I know, I would rather be home riding but that is the way it goes.

Spend a few days on Oahu. I just got back from there, stayed at the hilton hawaiian village. Wish i was still there haha.

I would recommend the 4 winds snorkel trip to Molokini, buy the video when you are done and get a Tshirt.

If you are not open water certified already, you may try an introductory dive. There is a cool one on Kanapoli beach in front of the Sheraton. The dive takes you around Black Rock.

If you are certified already, the dive at Molokini is good or a dive at Lanai - Cathedrals.

It all depends on what you are into and how much you have budgeted to spend.

Have fun - we will be there April 2nd through the 7th.

Drive up Haleakala in the am before the clouds set in, dress warm! Maui Ocean Center is great and if your a diver you can do the shark dive, no cage witgh 30ish sharks. Ive done it twice and it is fantastic! If your not a diver do the intro dive or maybe even get certified. You can do the class work at home and do the dives there. Screw Oahu, it sucks a$$. The road to Hana is a nice drive, go all the way around and ignore the rental car companies warnings, they are out dated, the road is fine. Find a couple of hours to wander Makawao, cool old ranch town (thats where I lived). Avoid the plantation train, it's a joke. Lahaina deserves most of a day wandering also.
Have fun!
Aloha

Go to Big Beach past Makena (Omeloa Beach or Makena Beach) , best beach on Maui IMHO. Watch out for the shore break seen many broken ankles and injuries there.
Snorkel Mile Marker 14, go out about 100-200yds.

I have to disagree with Wildcard on the road to Hana. Was in Maui for our honeymoon 2 yrs. ago and I think that was the worst thing we did. We rented a Harley for one day and rode the island it was great. Also take the trip to Pearl Harbor- it was one of the most moving things I have seen. Have a great time.

I guess that would depend on what you expected from it...
If you do it, take plenty of food and water as there isn't much out there. Lots of old cool stuff and rugged wilderness but not many places to buy anything. Ive drove it a few times and allways enjoyed it.

not sure what island but there's some dirt bike tours. My father in law did and had an absolute blast. Not sure of the outfit, but they were in T. Pastranas Nitro one or 2.

Wildcard- Maybe I didnt like Hana because I wrecked our rental car into one of the tight corners and banged up the fender. Wife got carsick later on and it was all my fault. :D Heres to having a good time:beer;

I took the heli ride around haleakala, that was truly awesome to see from the air
Check out the surfin on the north side, them waves are some kinda big
Totally interesting history there too, i spent a couple hours in whalers village reading about all the crap that used to go on a hundred years ago, I dont think there was any law back then
Love to go back but the sleddin sucks there

There is enough snow on the big isle that I half seriously thought about shipping a sled in. There are a couple on the island.

Go to big beach as described above but once on the beach head to the west (Right as facing water) climb rock trail and visit the nude beach on the other side.

Road to Hana was ok, have breakfast in the little town right before the start of the trip. There isn't much to see at the end of the drive unless you want to see the black beach and cave where Vince Neil made his **** with his playmate girlfriend back in the day.

Our entire family enjoyed the trip to Hana. Just plan on a whole day and take a few short hikes. Also a must is a stop at a little roadside shop that sells the best banana bread, trust me get more than you think. The wife had a book that had all the secret spots that many miss, I'll try and get the name for you. It's by a guy who has traveled all over Hawaii, and is a must. (The big island is my #1)

I assume you're talking about Maui Revealed, The Ultimate Guide Book by Andrew Doughty and Harriett Friedman. Excellent guide book and they have written similar books for most of the major Islands, it's a must have for first timers. We experienced a lot of things that we would have never known about without it. You have to love book that tells you to keep an eye out for the blue naked lady or the guy with a feather stuck in his head (literally) in Paia.

We also enjoyed the road to Hana, beautiful country out there and the drive alone was a rush. There's nothing like coming face to face with a dump truck in the blind hairpin corner of a one lane road to get the adrenaline flowing.

for breakfast stop by a little shop in Kihea for a fresh cinnamon roll they are the best, and I agree on the bannana bread we had ours eaten before we were back to the condo
