Gonna try and go this weekend ... Last ride for the year.

How are conditions?

I thought about going also but waiting till next weekend, please post a report when
you get back. Enjoy, Jim

Will do. Was gointo go next weekend but family needs me here.

I think the storm will be a nice addition for a Sunday ride since Sat will be in the 60's

Arrived Saturday morning.

Was 65 F outside and there was a few inches of snow on the ground.

Started snowing in late afternoon and dumped all night with lots of wind

Woke up Sunday 26F weather and about 2 feet in town. Snowed till noon and was a blue ski ride below the lodge.

Went thru many meadows with much powder and MOST TRAILS UNGROOMED.

Even the trail to the lodge was ungroomed.

At end of Saturday trails and meadows were tracked up and the moguls returns.

Today it was cold ... about 4F at 8AM.

Much of the new snow was gone but the summit looked like powder heaven... when viewed from the crater meadow.

There was no renters on the traiol cause it was too deep. Was pushing snow with the bumper on Sunday.

Christina and I will be up there next weekend too. Should be at Shady Rest around 9am on saturday. Love to hook up and ride together.

I think it just might have been me. Did you tell me you just rebuilt the clutch?

I helped quite a few on Sunday.

There was a M1000 wedged into a tree half way up on the "common" hill climb.

I helped a group of 6 sleds with only one experienced rider. I don't think they made it a 100 yards before somebody fell off. I helped them from an ungroomed trail to the groomed "c" trail.

Do you think Sunday was the best powder day of the year for Mammoth?

Ha ya, that was me. Heh sorry if I came off irritated. (See http://www.snowest.com/forum/showthread.php?t=134545 for my clutch issues) but basically I took it in for it's warranty updates got it back and it was worse then when I dropped it off, that was my first ride testing it out.. 4/5 times when trying to get it going from a dead stop the clutch would just freak out and the whole sled would just stutter while the track "shock" instead of say trenching me, or going like it should have. Then in upper RPMS when I tried to push it under load it would just start slipping and drop down to 6500-7000, between that and my prior lawn dart incident I wasn't a happy camper.. Thank you again though, for your help! I was dying trying to pull start it.

Wow sorry about the clutch.

I was wondering about the warranty issue since there was some parts missing on the sled..

I think clutch work is a science approaching an artistic skill so I would look at mailing it off to a reputable dealer.

Better yet go for a ride with your dealer and let them see how it "rides"

Under warranty you should not have to deal with these issues unless the mechanic doesn't know what they are doing.

I think you are a nice guy , damn you are a sledder ... what could be better than a sledder hanging out in 2 plus feet of fresh heavy powder?

I tell you some of those "cross country" skiers on the trail were mighty "bold" and "rude"

True, I wish I would have known that was you, would have been fun to meet up earlier and rode. As far as the skiers, you've had words with them? So far I've been pretty lucky I guess I usually get a smile & wave...the missing parts are from a previous incident.. fixed everything else but didn't feel the need to get another windshield, or brake light.

Hi Mike,

Shady Rest? Im not sure where that is. We usally leave out of the ranger station
Steve

It's the campground next to the ranger Station on the right just up the road as you pull off the 395. The RV park and McDonalds is across the street. We'll be there around 9am, grey F250 w/camper and a yellow and a blue Ski Doo. i sent you a PM.

James6000 is planning on going too, not sure on his plans yet.... Jim, chime in if you'll be around the area, maybe we can all get together for a ride.

Sounds good... meeting Steve and Susan (Stndinup) around 9:30a at Shady. Thinking probably go up to Crater Flat area first, so if we're already gone by the time you get there, look for us up there. I'm easy, so if Steve has a better area he knows of, I'll leave a note at my truck. I'll try the cell before we head out. We'll all tie-in somewhere.

If you go just north of the crater flats there is some area with snow and a few trees ... the snow is typically deep there.

LOOKING AT THE 00Z GFS MARCH 27, 2009.....THERE HAD BEEN SOME SUGGESTION OF RETROGRESSION IN THE LONG WAVE FEATURES BY THE 4TH OF MARCH AND A STORM ABOUT THE 6TH OF MARCH. THE ECMWF MODEL WAS SOMEWHAT IN AGREEMENT.

FROM LAST SUNDAY:

IN CONTRAST, ED BERRY'S LATEST DISCUSSION DOES HINT OF ADDITIONAL SYSTEMS MOVING THROUGH THE WEST COAST OVER THE FOLLOWING 3 WEEKS.....HE ALSO HINTS THAT THERE ARE MAJOR AREAS OF FORCING IN THE WESTERN PACIFIC AND OFF OF AFRICAN. HE CHATS ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF ENSO BECOMING ACTIVE AGAIN WITH WESTERLY WIND BURSTS COMING FROM THE WESTERN PACIFIC.
