Making a "Sub 500-lb" 900 RMK

Let's see if I can remember all the changes to mine that helped in the weight loss department. SLP single with "Thing" can, SLP airbox, Boss seat, Holz spindles and W.E. springless shocks, Holz rear skid with all bogies removed, Diamond S hood, Sly Dog skis and rad delete. There may be a few small items I'm missing, but I think that's all the major ones. I weighed every part I took off and all new items that went on. According to my digital scale, total weight loss was just over 54 pounds.

Thanks.

Damn!! Looks like I missed out on that tail light. I'm wanting the same one, but V.E is back ordered on them for a couple of weeks. Let me know Sean, if you change your mind. I hear that they aren't very bright! Hahaha, just kidding.

HA!

Hahaha, nice one. Do you know anyone who is using the slp light? I think the 4 bar ones look rad. Bomber tough. The slp with the clear lens might be cool too, but I can't seem to find any pics with anybody running it

Lets see..... Get a "roller" Dragon 155 .

Install a 2005 900 motor with an SLP performer kit (the holes are still there for the cross member) , fab a custom steering post, install the rear motor mounts from a 2006 900, fab a custom wiring harness, install the 900 muffler hanger and PTO side plates, 900 cross bracing install the ecu and misc eletcrical on the belt guard, plumb the fuel injection...some minor stuff I'm leaving out

Then add a Timbersled skid, T-sled front, float shocks light skis, gut the hood, FNI airbox, Better boards, Cat power claw 153 90 duro track (cuts 20 lbs out of a 166 install or 16 lbs from a 159 and 12 lbs from a 151 series IV) , Avid drivers, Venting, clutching, gearing, SPG front bumper, FNI headlight intake.

You should have around a 450 lb sled wet NO GAS (includes oil, coolant, shock oil)

I really like the raw chassis! is this even possible? I know its a long shot and would take an extreme amount of work but with all the modding I plan on doing why not start with a better bulkhead/tunnel. I guess I could just copy superdave and get a trick van amburg tunnel

not worth it....by time your swearing, bloody knockles hell show is over...you will be glad you shelled out some money just to get a raw chassis

I know my wheels are turning now, that would be a really fun build. The 900s are no fun to pull the motor on though. Thats the drawback that i can see, in relation to other build/chassis designs.

The BAR has been set. Awesome

You don't need anything special with the SLP L.E.D. light. I have one and it just glows for a minute or so after I turn the sled off. Not a BIG deal. I'd like to tip the scales with my 174. Seems like you should have taken off more than 54 lbs. there High Velocity. I never weighed anything except the pucks I drilled outta the 174 which was only around 3 lbs. Big whoop! Adding up everything I have taken off I was thinking I should be right close to the 500 lb mark. SLP pipe/can claims 21 pounds. I claim 23 with HTG/Sno-Stuff. Radiator delete is 14 lbs claimed by SLP. I put on a TCP bumper and they claim no added weight. I run either a gutted stock intake or my custom one and there is 1-3 pounds there depending on which one is on it. There's a good pound on the side panel exhaust shields. 6-7 pounds on the bogies and dual BIG wheels. About 1.5-2 pounds getting an L.E.D. brake light and removing rear plastics. Not much in removing hood foam until its wet. 1/2 a pound or so on the brake cooling chute. That there is about 50 lbs according to the manufacture claims. I know I have a few other little things done but that's a quick reference list for ya. These minor mods + Fox Floats/WE/RFX/Hillshooter springless shocks will get you around 495. Do a FnI headlight intake and I think you drop 7? pounds. That alone is sub 490. Do a rear skid and a-arms and you should be sub 460. Do a lightweight hood and a little stripping and I think a guy could get this sled under 450 with a lotta cash. And while your at it do a lighter tunnel of your choice. Now that would be something to see a sled like that on the scales!

05 900 163 Don't have the actual wt but est. at 460lbs. Figure it only cost about $125/Lb to shed the wt:eek::eek:
Diamond S Hood
EZ Ryde skid
163"x2.5 3"pitch camo extreme
Avid extroverts
Holz front with spindels
Fox EvolRs
Radiator Delete
SLP intake and exhaust
Boondocker Synergy NOS
Simmons skis

SnoDmon, it is possible that I dropped more than 54lbs., but I seem to remember it being right around there according to the scale I used. Scale could be a little inaccurate, but I think that alot of the time, the lightweight parts suppliers are not supplying accurate numbers. Irregardless, it was a huge weight loss and very, very noticeable in both the performance and handling of my sled. I think it would be interesting to get my sled onto an accurate scale and see what the wet weight is.

On paper and on the scales seems to be a big difference with the 900's.

My stock, out of the crate 2005 900 159" with skidplate was 567 lbs DRY.

Anthony Oberti had a Complete Holz/Carls built custom 159 with every trick thrown at it...some pretty nice fab with lightwieght everything including a Holz tunnel (very light) that tipped the scales at 470 lbs.

With the weight of the 900 engine at 25 lbs more than an 800cfi.... it is pretty hard to get the weight out without going "aerospace" on it.

Most fully modded 900's that I see with full lightweight suspensions, floats, boss seats rad deletes, pipe/can, airbox etc... tip the scales at 480-490 lbs.

What was the "advertised" dry weight of an 05 900? My 06 900 was supposed to be 539#s dry stock So with all the standard light weight stuff Pipe ,airbox etc I estimate mine right around the 500# mark > where the 05 that much heavier ? That boat anchor 05 chaincase would add a couple #s but where is the rest ? 567 -539 is nothing to snezze at .

When I ordered my '05 900 166" it was advertised at 516lbs and it gained 40lbs that summer winding up at an obese 566, yes thats five-hundred-n-sixty-six pounds:eek:

MH - What would ya think mine would way with all that except shocks, a-arms and boss seat? 500 or so? I shed a lot of plastics and unnecessary heat shields, my can is smaller than most and I got the 3" pitch 174. I would like to know what the 166" weights because I don't believe I added much weight, if any with that. Been planning on the shocks for too long but can't seem to muster up 300 bones for that sorta thing these days.

We need to have a weigh off for these 900's somehow. I'd like to see what they are capable of.....
