OK here we go...
I have a 2005 RMK 900 that I bought last summer with 900 miles on it. I put another 900 miles on it this season right up until the last ride on memorial day here in Nor-Cal. Sled has run flawless all season with no real problems (gas gauge is a little flakey at end of season and sled seems to be running a little warmer than usual). I have around $1K to spend and here is what I was planning to do (in order until the $ runs out):
1. Buy the newer type engine mount from Colin at Compfusion.
2. Do a top end rebuild (even though compresion is still good) using 2006 piston kits from Polaris. Now Here is where I need a little help...how can I tell if it already has 2006 pistons by looking at them? Even better is there a way to tell by looking at them through the exhaust ports to avoid tear-down?
3. Have clutch balenced by Indy Dan.
4. Change to 19/42 gearing
5. Install 225# track spring
The kid I bought it from said the dealer had installed a new clutch. I'm wondering if maybe I got lucky and they really installed the large crank set up. How can I tell if it's the larger crank? I have a set of calipers...is there a place I can measure without clutch removal that will tell me if it's the larger crank? I also already have a float kit for fixing the flakey gauge.
As Always, Thanks for the input, John
