The "Appalachian" will have a U.S. exclusive interior that's been designed to American tastes (and sizes) by Michigan-based supplier Lear Corporation. Leather seats will be optional.

Two-wheel and Four-wheel-drive versions will be available.

Mr. Perez says the truck's size is close to that of the current Toyota Tacoma, instead of being a 'true compact' pickup.

Mahindra and GV-USA are planning a wide range of accessories for the truck, one of which is expected to be a snow plow.

Indian auto manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. has plans to offer a mid-size diesel hybrid pickup to American buyers by 2010, promising even higher fuel economy figures than the diesel-only truck it will start selling next year. Both powertrains will be available for its 'Scorpio' SUV too.

I could probably haul more in my poo Ranger and better mileage too:D

I highly doubt that... maybe getting pulled by the Mihandra!!

I like the looks of them, and it is about time a company has come into the US market and built smaller trucks and suv's with diesel motors.

pretty valid point, but we already have isuzu diesel motors everywhere!! (duramax)

Smaller trucks is what I was going for. The only diesel vehicles are vw's, mercedes has an SUV, BMW has a car and a SUV, and jeep had a Grand Cherokee (not sure if they still make them with the diesel option), and they used to have a diesel Liberty too (I have one). I guess there is the Dodge Sprinter / Mercedes van too... I want one of those!

Right now for new SUV's, I think it is only the Mercedes and BMW. There are no half ton trucks or smaller with diesels in the US market.

Only one's i've seen around these parts are the Liberty diesel.. mean machines too, my buddy took me wheelin in his and I was really impressed.. as for cars, my brother used to have a volvo diesel car that would smoke down the road!!! My dad has an old beat up isuzu diesel that looks like a datsun and its still kickin at 400K miles!!! I guess its all in who you are, dunno bout these little trucks tho, i'd have to drive one before I can judge

and no reason for there no to be either!!!!!!!! 1/2 ton diesel truck would be a great seller i think. toyota, nissan, pretty much all the japanese companies have smaller diesels that they run in vehicles every in the world EXCEPT north america! i think that might start to change very soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

cool pic of the unimog scott, they use those as tractors in europe, i think alot of the oem's don't try to sell diesels small trucks in us because they have to reengineeer them for the epa crap, imo

aren't the emission standards already more strict in europe, where a lot of those engines do run????????

They said the Mahindra will be about the size of a Toyota Tundra, maybe a little bigger.

It is not a Unimog, instead it is a Zil Made in Russia

We would have many more small deisel options if we had more commonsense emmisions standards in the us. Our gov is doing a fine job of regulating the diesel engine out of existence.
