Magellen GPS

My dad gave me a Magellen GPS that he doesn't use and I can't figure out what maps to use for it. Has anyone ever used one of these, its the explorist, and if you have where'd you get your maps for it, also how did it perform?

I have an Explorist 500. You have to load the Map program provided with the unit . Use the Map send Manager to upload and download to the unit. I use a SD card in the expantion slot for mine. Then I drop and drag to it.

You do have to purchase online the 3D software.

It works great once you get it set up but it could cause problems loading the software.

Good luck if you have to call support.

I have the meridian (explorist replaced this model). I use the mapsend topo software that you buy seperately. I think it's the only one compatible with loading the Magellan GPS. Not sure if this is still the case on the explorist, but I bet it is.

BTW, I love my meridian and it has saved my bacon a couple of times.

I have loaded up the software provided with it, but the mapsend maps that you have to purchase are the only ones that work with it correct? can you purchase maps for pretty much anyplace that you ride?

I have the old Mapsend Topo 2D. I think what you will need is Mapsend Topo 3D. Most sporting goods stores that carry the explorist carry it. I think pricewise you are looking from $100 (i.e. cabellas) . If you go Ebay, should be about $60 plus shipping, but buyer beware.

I had a coupon in my box for the 3d Top-o to buy on line for 19.95. If you don't have call support and see what they can do for you. It is not worth the 100.00 with the other GPS options out there.

What model do you have?
