Machine the Spider

So is machining the Spider strictly so one can re-use the thick retainer washer that comes stock? It appears that it's there just to keep the shims centered.

My sled came with the thick retainer washer and one .056" shim behind it. Taking the .056" shim out still doesn't put me where I need to be on belt/sheave.

Throwing the retainer washer away and replacing it with roughly .106" of shims will put me right at .030" I want for clearance. I ran my last sled as well without the thick washer and never had trouble.... is there something I'm missing?

Just make sure your stack is straight, you will be fine. Did you mark your clutch before taking it apart? Hopefully you understand how to index the spider. Many companies are putting the primary back together incorrectly by lining up the Xs after shimming. This will throw the clutch out balance.

Thanks for bringing this up. It would not have occurred to me. Just shimmed my clutch. Time to take it apart put stock shims in, tighten up, mark, and take apart and this time index the spider.

If you a referring to switching the X into a different tower in order for it to line up (within 1") once assembled, yes I know.

I made a mark with Sharpie on the fixed sheave beforehand straight across from the X on the other parts.

Thanks!

You got it. Many don't know the proper procedure.
